PLEASE HELP ME!!

I am on the verge of tears. I had my surgery (band) on October 13th and my hair is now falling out at a scary rate. I called my doctor's office and the nurse said to take Biotin every day and get the daily amount of protein, and that it would stabilize in about 8 months. She said it would grow back. But at this rate, I'll be bald in 2 more months!

But that lady isn't black and doesn't know our hair. Today my mother looked at my hair and said it looks like one of those white girls who has really stringy hair. Until about 6 weeks ago, I had a thick head full of hair.

Please, somebody who has had this happen, let me know if your hair grew back and what you did in the meantime! I wear my hair in a bob, but I don't know how to wear it with the hairline going further and further back. My hairdresser doesn't know what to do, either.

I'm in a big depression. I still have more weight to lose (I've lost 60 pounds but I have about another 60 pounds to lose) but at this rate I'm thinking I need to slow down.

I feel your pain,  but you have to learn how to deal with your hair loss cause you will lose hair but for most people it does grow back.   it is funny that you posted this right now cause i'm sitting here looking at youtube hair videos.

I lost a lot of hair after surgery and i'm trying now to get my hair to grow back but you can't freak out about it.  Just know that it will come back for most, unfortunately mine didn't come back but for most people it does.

How do you style your hair now? I was reading where some women just shave it bald, but I don't have the confidence (yet) or the desire to shave my head. I don't think it's a good idea to get a weave because the hair is already weak and the weave would probably just make it break off. I also don't know if getting a wig is a good idea because it would probably not allow the hair to breathe. Plus I feel too young to wear a wig.

I know I need to learn to deal with it, but there are times like right now where I just start freaking out. What kinds of hair videos are on youtube? I might have to check them out.

Thanks for responding. When I hear I'm not the only one I calm down a little.

I lost a ton of hair, it came out by the handfuls but I had very thick hair. The lady was right, protein is crucial and biotin will not keep your hair from falling out but help it to grow back. Make sure you are taking your vitamins also. I didn't cut my hair except for my regular trims. I wear my hair natural and I waited until I was almost 11 months out before I even put color in it. I use deep conditoners and I've read that a lot of people use protein conditioners. My hair is growing back, most people can't tell that I've lost a lot because I had so much but I can tell especially when I get it flat ironed, it feels so thin. Your hair will grow back. You might want to wear a wig if you're not comfortable with it right now. Good luck and know that you're not alone.

your body has to adjust.  I used to have super thick hair and it's thinner - not horrible, but just thinner.  It took some time for my body to 'level' out.  Wigs are a great alternative in the meantime!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Make sure that you are getting enough protein.  If you can't eat enough, you will probably need to drink protein shakes.  I had the band and my hair loss was minimal; I have let it grow out some since my surgery and have not had any mor hair problems.  I only take the mega red krill oil tablets and a regular vitamin supplement.

When I don't eat enough protein, it will start to shead.  Just continue to keep your hair trimmed or you may have to cut it a little shorter and it should start to grow back.
