CALLING ALL YOU CHEATERS !!!!
Just had surgery 4 days ago. I have a horrible taste in my mouth and can't seem to get rid of it. I have asked some about what they were feeling about the 4th day. One told me she had grits and cheese the 4th day. Just a little about 1 or 2 ozs. She said she was scared but, she made sure she chewed well and it turned out fine. Later she had some oatmeal. The Surgeon said to do liquids for 2 weeks as with everyone else but, she just could take it anymore.
How about you.

If what you've been eating (drinking) hasn't gotten rid of the taste, how exactly do you suppose eating something else will?
Don't sabotage yourself. Don't rationalize cheating. Do what you're supposed to do. I had the taste too and it will go away shortly. Concentrate on getting your shakes and fluids in, that was really hard for me, I honestly had no desire to drink them, not to mention think about anything else. It's mental, you gotta focus.

Because of the fact that you SHOULD be doing only liquids at this point, there is very little you can do to get rid of that taste except to deal with it.
To cheat and EAT something four days out is not only asking for trouble, but definitely sabotaging yourself. After all, it was the eating that got us ALL, for the most part, where were are/ were.
Do yourself a favor and stop asking friends for advice. Talk to your surgeon and / or nutritionist if you have questions.

Please do not eat anything that your surgeon hasn't given you permission to eat.
Every doctor's protocol is different and they all have different rationales for why they order different things.
You might be going through ketosis, but dehydration can also make breath smell unpleasant. Make sure you're drinking all of liquids you've been told to drink.
Some other suggestions to get rid of the bad taste:
- Brush your teeth and tongue.
- Rinse with mouthwash.
Some docs will allow post ops to chew gum, but others won't. You might want to check with your doctor's office and see what they say.
Good luck!
