hello...if their name appears in black then they have set their profile to private..meaning no one can see their profile...not even their friends, but you can however see their posts.....if you are blocked then you can not see their posts or their profiles..
other profiles may simply be set to friends only...so you're able to view their post and see them, however when you click to view their profile you get a msg that they either don't exist or it's set to private...in that case just send them a friend request.
