My daughter is looking into wls surgery.   She dosnt want to be out of work a long time so I told I think that the lapband procedure has a shorter recovery time than RNY.   Is this true ?   So lapbanders can you tell me how long was your recovery and what was your pain/discomfort level like ?

Everyone is different, but I took only 2 weeks off of work. I had pain from the gas, but very little from the incisions. I took percocet for 2 days straight and then tylenol extra strength during the day when needed and then tylenol pm at night jsut to get use to sleeping on the port.

One other note, I schedule my fills during lunch so there is minimal time away from work.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning,

For me, I had my surgery on a Wednesday and I returned to work on the following Monday.  I had the initial gas/discomfort for a couple of days and then after that I was fine.

I like to think I have a pretty high pain tolearnce, but I returned to work 3 days post op.  I was a little tender but not in horrible pain.  I took one dose of paiin meds the night of surgery and stuck with tylenol after that.  My tummy made all kinds of loud gurgling noises the first week after surgery.

Me too Michelle, I have a high tolerance for pain.   I believe I could have returned to work in 3 day too because I was okay after a couple of days.  I wanted my surgery to be on birthday that Friday, but the only day that my doc performed surgery at the hospital that UHC would cover was only on Wednesday.

My original surgeon only recommended people take a week off of work unless they had a highly physical job.  He also told me his nurse pts always went back after 3-4 days.
