These are personal questions if you are not comfortable answering I understand. I had the Mirena put in last week.  I had the Mirena before and only had cramping and spotting for about three days after it was inserted.  This may be due to it was not inserted correctly. Well the second time around I am still cramping and spotting almost a week later.  I know this can last awhile according to my doctor.  If you do not mind sharing how long did you experience bleeding and cramping after you had it inserted?  Also how long did it take for your cycle to get back to normal if you even had a cycle?  I know everyone body is different just want to know others experiences.

I had it placed so long ago I can't remember how long I spotted. It'll be 4 years this summer. I do remmeber cramping for about a month. It was a difficult time for me because I wasn't used to cramps and didn't get them with my periods before. But after that month......smooth sailing. I haven't had a period since insertion. But since I've had WLS I get a lil lil spotting once a month now. The first time I was totally caught off gaurd.....not a panty liner, pad, tampon...nuffin up in this camp lol

ETA: the first year my GYN checked me at one month, then 6 mos, then yearly to make sure it's still straight.

Umm how did you get a Dr to insert Mirena?  From everything I heard you have to have already had kids alreaddy.  They seem to forget about us in our 30's that are pretty damn sure they don't ever want kids.  And yes I looked into getting my tubes tied too...no go.

My GYN said that many people without kids get the Mirena. I've never had any female issues and never been pregnant in my tubes so she said I'd be fine. This topic came up on the DS board once before and a couple of other non-breeders also had one so there must be other Drs that feel the same way. She said I'd prob be more fertile when I took it out. Dayum......8/2010!

I have some female issues so insertion for me was difficult to say the least In fact, my doc said next time we do anything it will NOT be done in the office~whew~

I spotted and cramped for about a month. Then I had regualr cycles that were much lighter and shorter than before my IUD. It really helped a lot in that department. My daughter also had one inserted after G-baby was born (at her 6 week check) and she only spotted and cramped for 2 days...HEFFA. She has also experienced shorter lighter periods and LOVES HER IUD...so do i cuz that=no more G-babies for now~whew~

I have something else to share but that TMI for here so I will hit you on the BL

I only had it for a few hours after. Perhaps you should speak to your doctor, although everyone is different.

i didn't wanna discourage your last post cuz like you say everybody's different but i hated mirena with a passion.  spotting went away after 2 weeks, but the cramping stuck around wanna say for an additional 2 weeks.   this was pre-wls and my dr. forgot to mention that the hormonal combination (somebody holla if this isn't true but i thot it had a higher concentration of testosterone in it) made me eat like a dude AND grow facial hair.  it wasn't a happy time.  that and the fact that i could always "feel" it despite what my gyn said meant it had to go.  pills it is.

I researched Mirena and the only hormone it release is levonorgestrel which is a synthetic progestogen.  I have never read anything about any other hormnes such as testosterone in Mirena.
