New Post-op Tip of The Day

Today's tip is to take things slow and be patient. It took us years to get obese and we want to get all of our weight off in a week. It's not going to happen. We didn't gain weight over night and we will not lose it all over night. Every person is different and each surgery is different and we will all lose weight at different rates of speed.

Do not rush your new baby pouch or sleeve or tummy to accept food that it's not ready for yet. Just because your dr. says it's time to move to the mushy stage of food doesn't mean that you should put a cheeseburger or a piece of roast in a blender to make it mushy. Our insides need time to heal and often times it takes a while for us to eat beef again. Get your protein in first but don't rush the food part. Believe me when I say that you will be able to eat again and at times that can be a bad thing.

Use your honeymoon period to get on the right track and eat the right foods because once you introduce carbs and sweets to your system, it is a bear to stop them from consuming your thoughts again. We are food addicts and some of these foods are like crack to us and one we get a taste we want more. Follow your diet plan laid out by your surgeon and nutritionist and know that you will be able to eat a normal diet again but it will take time. You didn't risk your life having surgery just to throw that chance away on certain food choices. Is it easy? NO but it can be done. We all make mistakes and that is called being human but the good thing is that we have an opportunity to make it right at the next meal.

So let's take it one meal at a time and choose healthy options for our newly restructured bodies.

Thanks for the sound advice. I've found that some of the foods that I couldn't wait to eat again are no longer appealing to me.

Great advice Rita!  I waited to add the "crap" in my diet until I lost all I wanted to lose. Howevr, I will ay that if you eat your protein first and attempt to get your protein in you won't have room in your meal plan to entertain as much junk. That's why I try to steer clear of the shakes because you can get 50 grams of protein in and not have to worry about eating right as long as you get the last 10-15 grams of protein in...again great post.

Talisha you will be tempted many times over and sometimes you will give in but right now give your tummy time to heal.
