OT: what SHOULD prison be like?
ARE US prisons too 'cushy'? I mean - I KNOW they are not great places - but compared to SOME other countries - they are pretty nice...... SHOULD they be worse?
I mean - there are a lot of mofos in the joint that come back time and time again - would they do it if it were a HELL hole?
And SHOULD we as a society pay for health care for prisoners on death row? In for life? Is our system TOO humane? If we are going to be THAT nice - why are they in there????
Just curious - tryna get some convo going......

I agree partially but look @ the facts...You take a 18 year old with no high school education and he gets booked for Robbery with a 5 to 10...So he comes home at say 24 years old...No work history, diploma, license, etc... What are the odds that he will end back in jail without having any guidance... Very likely...
Hey Lady,
I have a brother in prison and visit him frequently...Trust me all guys do in prison is wish and hope to come home...What they need to do in there is rehabilitate the guys because most of them come home to nobody and nothing and most are in for felonies and getting jobs is a hassle...I know they put themselves there but the cir****tances vary...When you come from nothing and know nothing it follows you in life...My brother and I come from the same family and I made it and he got caught up...Does that make him a horrible person...No...
Prison in the US is already a HELL hole...Our US system is probably better than most out there but making worse will not deter crime in my opinion...Everyone that I know in jail hates it and never wants to be in there again but without any help they probably will be there again and again.
if they hate it so bad - why they keep going back so much? YES - it's hard for a pimp to get a job with a record.... it SHOULD be - and yep - life WILL suck forever because of it.
Now - for lesser crimes, non violent - i think there is some rehab possiblity - but REAL criminals - NOPE - let em rot!!!

LOL...Love ya 2...This topic is like the debate on abortion, religion, politics and so on and so forth...I feel so strong about it because I grew up in the hood, a housing project in North Philadelphia...Growing up most of my friends mothers were on drugs and no place to be found and most of them, males especially, are dead, in prison, or in the way...It is ridiculous...And yes we have to be accountable for or actions but on the same note it is very likely to become a product of your environment...I see it EVERYDAY...Yes some people need to stay in jail but we have to face the fact that one day they will come home and something has to be done about it...And last who makes the determination as to who are "Real Criminals"?
It's totally subjective - and why the 'system' is flawed. At the ROOT of it - the support and upbringing and environment - however - not every person is meant/destined for Harvard - even IF the opportunity was there.
Do you think SOME mofos are just BORN bad?

I think that a small % of people are just born bad...You can have the best parents and live in a great environment and just be a horrible kid...I just wish that parents understand that they are the future for their children...Growing up I had no idea what College was but I graduated from a good one at that and now my 7 year old brother I raise has been to my school, he understands academics, and money and I have hope that he will be a success...
Parents need to step up to the plate and instead of struggling for their children to wear Roc a wear they need to throw that money in the bank for college or whatever...Struggle to raise them in a better environment...I see so much negativity in my old neighborhood it is a shame...I can do but so much...
It starts with the parents and getting through to children while in their youth...
I really like the way Joe Arpaio runs his camps out in Maricopa County Arizona...they sleep in tents, wear pink, and get bologna every day.
I don't know how I feel on the health care issues. I was thinking about this earlier after that post on R&R as well. I mean, do you base it on what their crime is, how long they will be in? Or how long they've already been in? If they hit the level where they basically require NH care, do we go ahead and release them? There is a big stink going on here right now, as an 88 year old inmate is up for parole, he took part in a murder for hire plot when he was 71 and was later found to have an IQ bordering on mental retardation. There aren't any quick fixes. I do think that inmates should be forced to pay SOMETHING towards their care...I know they only make a nickel a day, but they could throw at least one of those nickles in the kitty to help out!
