how many calories am i supposed to consume in a day?
Hey ya'll
I joined daily plate(thanks "star Jones") and well thats a really cool tool and i am becomeing much more accountable of what i eat etc. and it gives me a calorie limit of about 1665 calories in a day, in order to lose 2 lbs a week. and even calculates calories burned to to activities! My thing is, these caloric counts are probably for a non WLS person... or is it? is our caloric intake any different from anyone else? I try to get in my proteins and what is cool is the daily plate breaks down your protein fats and carbs for the day, so i know to up the protein or lower the fat or carbs i consume. I know im supposed to get in at least 60g of PROTEINS in, which is why protein shakes are still a staple in my diet.... but in terms of calories, what is our limit?

Good question.....
I also use daily plate and love it.
But I had the band and I know that we dont malabsorb and that everything that we consume pretty much stays with us versus RNY patients. I try to stay between 1200-1500 cals daily.
I think this is a good question for your doctor honestly cause it depends on how far you are out of surgery and what your weightloss goals are. I would think.
Girl I know I didnt answer the question...but Im curious to see what other folks say. So Im staying tuned for the answer as well........

I'm only 3 months out from a VSG and I set my calorie count to 800 on LiveStrong.com. The Daily Plate wasn't accepting new members when I signed up. There is a calorie progression that your NUT should help you set. Once I get to a year I should be up to 1000 -1200 or higher for maintenance... that's hoping I make it to goal before a year.
I use Daily Plate and love it! As for the calories I have not visited my nutrientist in several months, so I don't know what my actual calorie intake should be. However, I set it low (1000) and usually end up OVER by 500-800 calories (sad but true). So, on most days it ranges between 1200 - 1800 per day (guess that could be why I am not losing). When I add exercise to this I am suppose to increase the calories.

Okay Family,
We are going to learn how to calculate our daily calorie requirement so we can blast that fat off our bodies. Go to the store and buy a seamstress tape measure. First thing is to go here...
http://www.linear-software.com/online.html
Once you are here, look to the far right where it says tape measurement method.
Now, measure yourself and put in those numbers in.
Example:
I am 71 in
Neck: 15
Waist: 33
My body fat %: 15
LBM: 155
Now I have those numbers, I will take my LBM (155) and divide it by 2.2. This gives me 70. This number is my weight in kilograms. Now use the following formula.
370+(21.6 x Weight in Kg)
My basal metabolic rate will be this formula: 1882 Calories to survive without no activities.
Now I workout now 5 days a week. I use the formula:
No activitiy = 1.2
1-3 days in the gym = 1.375
3-5 days in the gym = 1.55
So, I take my BMR and multiply that by 1.55 (BMR x 1.55)
This gives me my maintanence level calories or TDEE: 2917 Calories.
Now I have to create a safe calorie deficit to lose 1-2lbs a week. So I will multiply my maintenance calories or TDEE by 20% to get my calorie deficit.
2917 x 20% = 583 Calorie deficit is a safe range for my body without stalling out or storing fat.
Now, I will subtract 583 from 2917: 2334 Calories in order to lose 1-2lbs a week. I will round this to 2300 calories for tracking purposes.
This is how you get your daily caloric requirement!
You can't lose fat if you don't know your numbers, it's like shooting at a target in the dark.
Hope this helps!
Big Hugs
James
