If you really feel in your heart that this man is for you ( I would put would he said on the shelf) you turn YOUR plate down and pray! Pray for Gods will to be settled in your heart-outside of what he said and how you feel! Then take whatever GOD tells you and hide it in your heart! STAND ON IT!!
DO NOT CHASE HIM, this is a time to chase GOD! You just occupy! Allow God to either end the relationship or intensify the relationship! When you pray for him-pray in the spirit so that your flesh or motives do not hinder. Sometimes, you have to fight for what is yours!
The devil dispises whole relationships.
Sometimes deception/the devil can start using air time and giving us wrong messages
for the wrong people! Only you and God know what the truth really is!
Love does not seek its own! Do not think about what you may be losing (I know it hurts) but think about WHAT IS GOING ON WITH HIM
that he all of a sudden- made the decision he made! God does not lie, his word completes every assignment! Only patience and faith will tell! A wise woman builds her house! Either you will cease this opportunity to COVER a friend in prayer 
or allow what may/may not be a set-back beat you down!
AND, if he is not the one-then God is just making room because you are trying to make this guy work and it is messing with his time table for you!
