I went in to wls with the approach of doing everything by the book.  I am only seven weeks out and try to stick to a low fat and low sugar guide lines my surgeon and nut gave me.  If I want a food that is not in the guidelines my surgeon gave me I make a alternative version of it so I can have it in moderation.  That is my take on it.  I do not deprive myself I just make or buy a wls friendly version and watch my portions.  Have I taking a bit or two of something I probably should of passed on so far in my journey yes. With that said I decide to succeed and I can only do that by creating good habits now.

I was fortunate when I had my WLS, because I had Becca as and example.   She had her surgery 3 years before I did, she started out at 361 pounds standing a whopping 4 feet 9 inches.  She wore a size 48 - 52, she wore a 7X in mens shirts, super size clothes not regular plus size clothes.  We had to have her clothes special made for her big ass, which costs a fortune.

She had her surgery and she was the model WLS patient.   She did not eat anything off the diet for almost 3 years and she went from 361 pounds to 125 pounds and she maintains her weight to this day 6 years later.

So seeing her example when I had my surgery I wanted to be just as successful as she was, and I stuck to that diet like crazy for almost 2 years and I lost all my weight, just as she had.  I knew full well from having gone to every doctor appt with her what to expect and how to be successful at this whole thing, and I did what I needed to do to be successful.

Yeah now i'm fat so freaking what,  LOL.   But it is because I eat crap now, and I know what happens when I stop eating crap,  I become thin again and that is what i'm trying to do now.

As a newbie I was fortunate to have such a great example in Becca .  I wish some of the newbies had someone like her to example themselves after cause I know it's hard but it can be done.

This is really not answering your question Mack Mama but I will say this. As a pre-opper I learned a lot from that post. To me it was a reminder of how I got to get my head in the game now so that it will be easier later. We are all human including the young lady who posted her post and sometimes we may not make the wisest decisions. If we did none of us would be here now. pre-op, newly post-op, or old head. She slipped up this weekend but its not too late for her to recommit to her surgeon's rules and advice. Hopefully what she will take away from the post is not so much that everyone was trying to be negative but people are trying to get her to see the seriousness of the situation. As for me I can only hope and pray that I have a smooth journey that I never get tempted beyond what I can bear.

My goals right now as of today is to quit drinking soda. I love the stuff. Its like liquid crack that I must have my hit of everyday. I am giving it up today. I am hoping to have this surgery by April and I would consider it a major accomplishment if I can kick this habit before then.

I also would like to start taking my bariatric vitamins everyday. The doctor wants me to start taking them once a day because after surgery he is telling me I need to do it 4 times a day. He wants me to get into that habit now. So that is my goal as well.

Exercising. This one is another hard one for me. But I am trying to committ myself to 15 minutes a day to start. Just to form a habit. I can always kick it up a notch later.

These are my goals for the next two months. I may backslide but I am going to keep on trying till I get it right.

Just wanted to tell you I'm so glad you took that post to heart and got that out of it.  We can say a lot of meaningful things on this board....but the key is trying to follow through.

Your first goal, to stop drinking soda, will do wonders for you!  I was a diehard Pepsi drinker and NEVER thought I could put that shiot down.  I haven't had ANY since surgery!
I'm still working on the consistent exercise but I'm taking that one day by day.

I can remember like it was yesterday Deedee warning me about starting back to drinking alcohol.....man how I wish I had listened to her.  That is such a struggle, keeping those empty calories out!

We all backslide, but like you said...we gotta keep trying!

HI MM, I STUCK TO TO THE BOOK FOR FEAR OF FAILURE!

did you expect to NEVER eat some things?
YES I EXPECTED NO MORE SWEETS, BREAD OR FRIED FOODS

did you expect SOME things to ALWAYS make you sick?
SUGAR BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN AS I AM ALLERGIC TO MOST SF PRODUCTS..
ASPARTAME

did you plan to leverage WLS as a tool to recraft your habits?
I EXPECTED IT TO PUT A WHOOPING ON ME THAT FORCE A CHANGE OF HABITS

did you expect WLS to 'make' you eat better?
IN MANY WAYS IT HAS, I THINK TWICE ABOUT MY CHOICES

Success comes in CAN, Failure comes in CAN'T. Never say NEVER!
