New Post-op Tip of The Day

I apologize for not posting yesterday but I had a seizure and was in bed sleeping it off all day and most of the night. I'm off of work today because a seizue exhausts me.

Todays tip is for the really new post-ops. When you are able to start eating your mushy or soft foods, I suggest that you use either a baby or toddler spoon and fork. I actually think that using baby plates and bowls help as well because it helps with keeping your portions low. Your mind is going to want to pile food up like you used to but your pouch will only be able to handle about 2 ozs. Make sure you're taking your time chewing thoroughly and taking tiny bites.

Also remember that you should stop drinking 30 minutes before a meal and not drink again until 30 minutes after a meal. The reason for this is because you have a small pouch and liquids will fill you up and you won't have room for your food.  If you drink with a meal, you will push the food out of the pouch faster that will make you hungry again in a short amount of time and you will be adding more calories and has been known to make you gain weight. Remember to sip your water and not gulp but get tha****er in and get that protein in also.

As I am reading your post, I am eating an egg concoction that I made. I am on soft foods now. Thanks for posing this information. It just reminds what us newbies need to do.

Also I will be praying for you. Take it easy.
