New Post-op Tip of The Day
I wear a medical id bracelet for 2 reasons: 1) I have a seizure disorder and can be found unconcious after a seizure and can't speak for myself 2) We have some special needs as wls patients.
My medical id bracelet states: Gastric Bypass RNY
No NG Tube W/O Scope
No NSAIDS No Sugars
See Wallet Card
My wallet card has my surgeons name and # and my pcp name and # my hubby's name and #, my allergies to meds and other illnesses that I have, such as my seizures.
As I said, this is a personal decision but I don't want to risk being in an accident and they have to put a tube in my throat and ruin my pouch or if I'm unconcious and they start an IV with glucose/ sugar in it. I've been told by medical personnel that the medical alert bracelets that look like jewelry may not be found immediately because it looks like a regular piece of jewelry. I wear a regular stainless steel bracelet and only get asked about it when I'm getting medical tests or in the hospital.
I have no idea about the Lapband, DS or VSG so maybe those people will give their opinion on this matter.

Question for you, just curious. Why do you have No NSAIDS? I am told that the No NSAIDS is for a long term of taking them (I could be wrong) but my thinking is in a emergency, I want them to use what ever the heck is going to work on my pain the fastest and since it will (if I am lucky) be a short time, they shouldn't hurt me, but then again, I could be thinking all wrong.
Funny story: When I was first diagnose with diabetics, I wore one, now mind you, I did not know that you have to engraved what is wrong with you on it. So I was proudly wearing my bracelet thinking I was good to go. (I thought they had a different one for each ailment, color coded, and the red indicated that I had diabetics).
Came to work one day, sitting at my desk, this lady came by, flip my bracelet over and said, what is wrong with you, it doesn't say anything, I was thinking she was being funny, I said...well the medical folks will know and that is all that counts, only later did I learn that in fact it really didn't tell medical folks a darn thing. I was so naive ok, I was just dumb. So my tip is don't be like me, wearing it like a piece of jewelry when it not serving the correct purpose.

I just want to say that NSAIDS may be taken. My surgeon wrote a script for Naproxen-EC which is a specially coated Naproxen that can only be prescribed and dispensed by a Pharmacist. For many insurances it does require pre-authorization, but once done there are no future problems with getting it. This is good for those who have pain issues and bad menstrual cramps.
After banding I took the Naproxen EC just fine for 2 years with no pouch problems.
