This was a sad story - apparently the young boy verbalized that he was going to kill himself....here's the full story from the Chicago Sun-Times:

Boy's death at school ruled suicide

The state's child welfare agency is investigating neglect allegations against an Evanston school where a 10-year-old boy died after being found hanging in a bathroom stall, officials said.

Fifth-grader Aquan Lewis of Skokie was found unresponsive at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oakton Elementary, 436 Ridge Ave. in the north suburb. He died at Children's Memorial Hospital at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Aquan told a teacher he planned to kill himself, and the teacher may also have shared the boy's comments with another staff member, sources told the Sun-Times. One of the sources charged that school personnel failed to take the threat seriously.

According to a law enforcement report, Aquan had been scolded by school staff earlier Tuesday.

"I just can't talk right now," Aquan's tearful mother, Angel Marshall, 26, told reporters Wednesday.

Evanston police and Evanston/Skokie School District 65 officials declined to provide details about the death, citing a police investigation. "It appears this is an isolated incident involving one student," District 65 Supt. Hardy Murphy said.

Aquan's family hired a lawyer, saying they had received scant details and had concerns over why the boy hadn't been in a gym class.

School officials told his mother he had been in line for gym but apparently slipped away unnoticed.

Neglect allegations were called in to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services against the school in connection with the death, DCFS spokesman Jimmie Whitelow confirmed.

"The question I think everyone is struggling with is where he made his departure from gym class to the bathroom," Murphy said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled the death a suicide by hanging.

"As she sat there through the night and into the morning as her son lay dying, his mother kept asking, 'How did this happen?' " said Larry Rogers, the lawyer for Angel Marshall. "How is a boy out of a classroom on his own, unsupervised, and hanging on a hook for that duration?"

North Burbs, hmmm? If Evanston is like the burbs I live in.....there are only 1-3 blacks in each class.  Why does that make a difference they ask? Kids are CRUEL! They say ugalee schitt!

That is why I converse with K & K EVERYDAY about their day at school!

Now that the Obama drama is over (for how long), one little girl is now mocking about Kerri's hair.....WOOOSAHHHH.....but LAWD, Kerri is so my child! ~that is good and bad~

My condolences to his parents and family.

When I was in high school, I went to the bathroom one day out of science class and found a girl unresponsive on the floor - she was doped up - don't know if she tried to kill herself, but she was VERY messed up.

It's such a shame. Kids today are under so much pressure. I think they're also exposed to too much. My mom monitored what we watched on TV, what movies we saw, who we hung out with...everything. Granted she was a stay at home mom for a while but at 10 I would have no idea even how to hang myself.

The really effed up thing is the first response of the parent seems to be getting a lawyer, like they intend to sue the school system.

Shiot, that child has probably been hurting for some time and no one probably saw it or cared.  Now the want to maybe profit from it????

All I can do is shake my head.

D, how are you?

You know what, LAWYERS are bloodhounds. They get wind of the story.....and they contact the family!!!!!  Trust me, it happened to my sister!

My nephew wa**** by a car.......not only did she hit him, she reversed the car off him and then ran over him again!  At this time he was 12 years old!!!!!!  They were not looking for him to live!!!

By the time my sister made it to the hospital out of town (they airlifted him), a lawyer was there WAITING on her! It's not you don't care that your child is hurt or dead.....no money can EVER replace that, but SOMETIMES making someone admit they neglected or acted irresponsible will save another child.

Now me, my child, 10-year's old....that Kenn's age.....in a bathroom HUNG....not found until 3:00pm.....I would need a lawyer----------------------to get me out of jail

What's up, Dedee.

I'm sure the ambulance chasers had their ears on waiting for something to happen and they came running.

Exactly but how can you put all the blame on the school the fact that your child killed himself?  What's really going on in the home and why wouldn't parents sense unhappiness in their child?

What is going on in a 10 year old's world that is so bad that he hangs himself?

So sad.
