Hey everyone!

yesterday i began to get more excited and thought to myself WOW march 23 is right around the corner i better start trying to prepare myself for this life changing event! so i looked around my house to see what i need to be replacing or purchasing.  I have my recliner so thatcan help me when i need to be sitting up, im not sure on the vitamins, and pain meds i may need afterwards, so if someone can give me any suggestions on that that would be great!  i would also know what kind of foods should i be stocking up on right now, because my plans is to get rid of pretty much everything i have in my kitchen and start anew.  did any of you guys stock up on certain foods before, if so what did you get? i know i need to get protein, so i am gonna need suggestions on what the good proteins you all have tried?

PS.....im looking for more weight loss surgery friends! post-op and pre-op!! sooo......raise your hand if you want to be my friend...........lol!!!

Congrats on your upcomming surgery date.

My suggestion is to go online and search for sites that sell protein (powder and ready made). You can also try stores like GNC and Vitamin World.  Most of them will send samples...get some and try them out.  Your tastebuds may change after surgery so get as many different kinds as you can....without stocking up on any particular brand.

As far as other foods/drinks...get SF stuff like popcicles, jello, applesauce.....
Get a variety of soups.  For your vitamins and supplements, I suggest you discuss that with your Nutritionist since every doc and nut is different.  They will have let you know what's best for you.

You have come to the right place for friends and support right here on BAF...we all jump right in and try to answer all your questions...so welcome!

Hello There!

Welcome to BAF! I'm looking for weight loss surgery friends as well. It may be me but i find it hard to get in where you fit in around here. It seems like there are already many established relationships.

Talisha26, you are correct, there are MANY established relationships here.  But, everyone started out as a newbie and did in fact fit in.  I am sorry that you find it hard to do so, but your welcome to Chonuff is not very welcoming.

Looking back at your latest post, it looks like you have been successful in fitting in pretty well.
I don't know if you noticed the recent Newbie tips posts....they are very helpful and I feel a great way to get newbies more invloved in the board.

Only time will help in establishing relationships...especially via a forum such as this.  With replies such as yours, Chonuff could very well be turned off from this site.  I do hope that is not the case because BAF really is an excellent source of info, support and laughs.

Hopefully you BOTH will feel welcomed and join our family!

Welcome Chonuff.  I just had my surgery 4 weeks ago and I think I'm still in shock.  This is an awesome place to get information.  Now when it comes to food, it's okay to get tips here but everyone's doc is different so check and see what he/she wants you have pre/post op.  I'm still on a full liquids diet while some folks started eating chicken on day 3.  Hell, I never thought I'd be so happy to start eating cooked veggies on next week...lol.

You and Tarnisha(sp?) feel free to add me as friends.  It really helps when we have folks going through the same things as us because my family can be supportive but they really don't know what I'm dealing with.  That's why I love BAF.

I'm a newbie as well-- but I can tell you I have felt nothing but WELCOMED by the BAF Family.   There is a ton of info and the vets are always willing to help you out, answer questions and give out great support and advice.  I, myself find this better than any face to face support group. (JMO)

As for "stocking up" be careful not to buy TOO MUCH of any one thing.  Try on line sites and requests samples of protein supplements before committing.  I found that unflavored protein mixes were the best for me.  They can easily mix into your favorite soft foods and liquids for more variety in your protein sources. (UNJURY has been the best so far). Still in search of a "good"  protein shake.  Be sure to check labels.
Your nut can help you with the best choice for vitamins. (Chewable Centrum, Cal-trate and even children's chewable are good options).  Pain meds should be advisable from your surgeon.
As for FOOD-- SUGAR FREE-- drink mixes, Popsicles, puddings, gelatin and yogurts have been my new best friends for now.  Low or fat free cream soups and broths as well as oatmeal and Cream of Wheat are warming and soothing  to my new "tummy" as well.

Again-- feel free to reach out to the BAF-- it was the best decision I made.

Welcome Chonuff, Apple, Talish, and Shawna! I am pretty new myself and I am always looking for new friends. I had my surgery in November and I am still in the learning process. One thing I do know is that your taste buds will change after surgery. Some things you loved before, you will not be able to stand. Like everyone else said, don't buy a lot of one thing. Try to get samples of different shakes for protein. You will do fine. It is all a learning process. Stick with sugar free things. Good luck! I am going to add you guys to my friends list if you don't mind.
Jerry
