Energy drinks. Good or bad
One of the biggest problems that I have had since I had my WLS has been a lack of energy - the kind of energy that lets you focus on exactly "what the blab, blab, blab..." the overseer is actually saying on my plantation every weekday.
I find it quite hard to stay awake most times because I work and go to school everyday of the week. Normal vitamins (Dollar General, Target, Wal-Mart cearance specials) just aren't cutting it for me. I need energy - good sustainable energy that doesn't make me feel all jittery and nervous or will have me running down the street scared to death like the folks do in those old Godzilla movies. Plus, I don't want to be too amped up either feeling like I want to go out and pretend I'm Bruce Jenner winning the dayum decathalon. Also, It can't make me crash after it wears off either, causing me to fall sleep at 5:30 in the evening like I just got finished swimming across the entire Atlantic ocean.
My questions to you true believers are:
1. Are energy drinks like Red Bull, Monster, RockStar good for us WLS survivors? The sugar-free ones?
2. What are some good alternative energy sources without the side-effects?
3. What are the best vitamins for us WLS survivors?

I would say you are too new for energy drinks - you should talk to your doc. I remember when I was fairly new and had some issues, my doc adjusted my vitamin intake - it helped me a lot. I do use energy drinms now, but I am not 'falling out' or crashing at the end of the day either.......

As far as the cost of the multi vitamin, I don't think there is a difference. I think she means her Doc may have suggested that she also take B12 and iron supplements along with the multi. Both of those will give you more energy.

Yea - what Kim B said.... LOL! My doc has me on 2 multis a day plus 2 B-complex. I also take Omega 3.

I actually saw a news story recently about energy drinks and that they somehow briefly interrupt your heart rhythm. This is especially dangerous when drinking the different drinks made popular in bars in which they are mixing alcohol with red bull...etc.
Have your labs checked. Be sure to find out your levels opposed to whether you fall into "normal" range. What is normal for the majority on the scale might not be normal for you. B12 sub lingual will also wake you up and you need it anyway. Low iron will make you feel lethargic as well.

It's not about the cost of the vitamins, it's the type of vitamins you are taking. You should take a multivitamin, calcium citrate, B-12, and iron. Sounds like you really need some iron and B-12. Please check with your doctor. Even though he might tell you an expensive brand of vitamins, there are alternative brands available.
