My feeling is that I was approved for WLS when my bmi was 50 and I was totally miserable. (in 2004)
I had my wls in 2008 when my bmi was 36 back up from 28. (Insurance denied) I was not trying to eat myself back up to the 40 bmi requirement. (I was headed in that direction)
I had to self pay because the big girl 50 bmi was back on my tracks !!
Once and for all I had to get a handle of maintaining my life long struggle with obesity !!

I know that's right. You did the right thing.
I still haven't finished reading all of the responses, but I have to agree with the majority on that one. How the hell can the poster even fathom the thought that just because someone is a lightweight that they can lose the weight by diet and exercise and that they must be healthy with a lower bmi. My reality is that no matter how low my bmi gets I will never again have 100% health so she was wrong on every level.

WLS is not for the light hearted. The DS is the most complicated and evasive of all the surgeries for a reason. It's been a trip and a hell of a ride. Yep, keeping up with the vitamins is a mess. Yet, I knew what I was signing up for.
I remember talking to Kim Burrell(she's a Gospel artist from Chicago) about WLS and she flat out told me: 'Look, I've had some people I know that did well and I've some that I know that died. Weight loss surgery aint for no punks."
Just like beautiy WLS is in the eye of the beholder. I think that Julie's vision may be one of guilt because of the transition from her former self to her new self. There have been occasions where I have to catch myself because I'm not the "Plus Size" Diva that I use to be and people get offended by things that I use to say normally because I'm not a big woman anymore.
Do you remember the lady that had that head trip website? I really miss that site. WLS is a mental, physical and spiritual thing and when one of those things are out of whack everything gets thrown into a spin. With the DS it's as if the weight is literally falling off. Your body is losing the weight and your mind often doesn't catch up with the same speed. I lost 75lbs within the first 6 months.
I respect the fact that she gave her opinion. My decisions are based on my conversations with God. We make plans and He makes the finally decision. AND favor ain't fair. My BMI was high enough, I didn't have to jump through hoola hoops, no six month diet, I was approved on the first attempt. Bottomline: what is for you...is just that for YOU.
I pray that whatever is on her heart right now doesn't cause her to sink into depression or anything like that. As a matter of fact.....I'm going to pray for her

I really feel bad for her in her position. She prob has lost many many friends over this. When I first looked at the thread list and saw hers had 200 looks already I was like.....what's poppin off now? lol
Gotta love the DSers!
