To all my Spiritual/Believing folks, tell me what you feel.

Hello BAF,

I was talking to an associate yesterday and we ended up talking about Gastric Bypass surgery. This person does not know I'm having the surgery, but still correlated me into the scenarios regardless. He made the argument, "what if God just intended for you to be fat"? Of course I instantly felt this was rediculous and I made the argument that God gives man (surgeons) the gift to be able to do things like RNY in order to allow people the help they need to take the weight off. He then proceeded to say, well people die from it, and there are all sorts of complications. Did God intend that?

So my question to you who truly have a spiritual conscience. If you've had the surgery done already, what was your though process or your belief IN YOUR HEART in regards to the correlation between WLS and God? For those who are pre-op like me, what are your thoughts?

Hey there,

First of all, congrats on taking steps to do the surgery.  It takes a great deal of courage to do so.

As to the spiritual / religious question, people get a little besides themselves in their beliefs and what the want YOU to subscribe to.  I can see that person saying that God wants you to be a certain way if there are things you cannot change...like your height,  your color (though Michael Jackson sure as hell tried to change THAT), or any other genetic traits.

Something like weight ,however, is something you CAN control.   I mean, honestly, that's like saying, "Gurl, God says you are suppose to be poor / destitute and uneducated.  That's your lot in life...Accept it."

I have one word for that: BULLSHIOT!

It's people like that who make me more spiritual than religious.

What you said makes a lot of sense, "religious" folks tend to be that way in pushing their own belief system on you.  Thanks for your response!

Hey lady!!!!

I have to be honest - I NEVER thought for a second that God intended for me to be unhappy, unhealthy and unable to live up to HIS promise and hope for me.  PLUS - throughout my process, I PRAYED and talked with HIM - I may be flippant, funny, outrageous and all on here, but one thing I have is GOD in my HEART.  If I thought for one second this was against what HE had for me - it would not have happened.  I leave ALL things to him.  I had to go through THREE appeals for approval - God was in control of that process!!!

I absolutely believe that all things are in HIS control, not mine.  If it's not meant for me to have or not meant to be - it won't.  There have been TOO many situations in my life where something *I* wanted didn't happen, and I see much later that HE was guiding me to HIS best, not mine.......

so - NO!  I rebuke the thought that God might want folk to be fat.  God wants us to be our BEST to live our BEST life within HIM - our consequence or cir****tances that lead us to be obese is not our DESTINY....... if it is HIS will, the doors and approvals for WLS are there - HE always makes a way!!!

I am pretty stubborn and set when I make goals for myself. I don't let people shake my foundation. Once my mind is on something I push forward and press on.

One thing I do not allow people to question and that is not up for discussion is my faith. My faith is mine and it's personal, you know what I mean? The last words I uttered before I went to sleep on the table were "God, your will be done." I knew and held Jeremiah 29:11 in my heart "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

If someone asked "What if God just intended for you to be fat"? I would look at them like they are crazy because clearly they don't serve the God that I serve. I serve a GOD that takes ordinary people helps them reach extraordinary levels(Barack Obama.....HELLO)

What if God intended you to be broke, homeless, jobless,.....etc HUH?? He came that I might have life and have it MORE ABUNDANTLY.

His word tells us that He is a rewarder to those that diligently seek him.  Here ya go Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I send this to all PRE-OPs if you have made God(or whomever your high power may be) your first source in your WLS decision. Leave your choice at the altar. Don't pick it back up. Consider that decision some additional weight off your shoulders.

Go Well,
Lena

Wow, I have to 'Amen' that as well.

"He came that I might have life and have it MORE ABUNDANTLY"

This is exactly what I said to this person, but it was more of a 'we' instead of 'me'.

Thanks for your response!
