I got home yesterday and I am doing fine.  no pain just sore where the drains are.  but I am having one problem.  My Asthma seems to bee acting up.   Last night I couldn't sleep because I was up all night caughing up flegm.  it had a pinkish tent to it so I called my surgeon and he said it wasn't anything to worry about because I need to get that stuff out of me.  But if it didn't go away in the next few days see my pulmonogist.  Today I am still cauging up flegm every few minutes but it is no longer pinkish.  I am also short of breath when I try and come up my stairs.  Anyone else go through this?

Hi Sheena,
I had my surgery a day b4 u and I had the same experience.  I n the hospital they were giving me treatments.  My chest was so tight I couldn't breathe.  It scared the hell out of me.  I was contemplating staying in the hospital for another day because it was so bad.  Thankfully the day after I got home I felt so much better (I think it was the hospital).  Continue to cough out the phlegm because the anesthesia aggravated the asthma.  And use that little inhaling device that they should have sent home with you.

Glad to see that your home.

Welcome home Sheena and to the loser's bench. I had problems with my asthma for a few weeks following my surgery. My pcp added zyrtec to my meds. along with my advair and albuterol inhaler. My asthma is so much better now but it's not gone. The anesthesia messes with people with asthma. I agree with Hugga about using your breathing apparatus that you got at the hospital. Remember to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk.

PS. Don't add any meds even if they are over the counter unless you've discussed them with your dr.

Hi Sheena

I also had a few  breathing issues or the first couple of day, make sure you keep doing your peak flow meter and inhaler to keep your lungs expanded.  I had to sleep with the fan on the help me try to get in more air.  After a few days it will loosen up and get better.
