4 Days Post-Op: Thanks and a Bandster Question!

Hey Everyone!  I wanted to say thanks for all of the supportive messages, and most of all to publically thank my Angel Karen!  She's been amazing -- even though I've been groggy and grumpy!  I'm four days post op -- and I do still have some discomfort, but I'm pushing through it.  My big issue is that either my head is hungry (do you KNOW how many food based commercials there are on TV??!) or my tummy is, and I can't figure out which one!   Were any of you "hungry" (head or for real) during your post-op clear liquid diet?  How do you tell head hunger from real hunger?

Its making me pretty cranky -- and I don't want to be so grumpy to my family while they are taking care of me :)

I did no****ch much TV during my first week because of all the commercials.  I made my sons go out to eat and at their grandmother's.  My experience was mostly head hung and my mind playing games because I was used to chewing my food.  I will pray for you because it is a difficult time but you will get through it.

I wish I hadn't have watched TV!  I kept it on MSNBC and QVC as just back ground noise -- but there were still some comercials and QVC sold oranges :P  I've done well --- sipping my broth right now -- but this is pretty awful.  I just don't know why it lasts SO long!

Thanks so much for the prayer!

Greetings and welcome to the Losers bench....

I was banded on  Jan 5th. I know how dreadful the clear liquid diet was. But trust me it gets better. You will never be happier in your life to eat eggs and cream of wheat...lol.. Seriously, its totally head hunger. I watch the food network all day and it doesnt really bother me. I am focused on the prize of being healthier. My family eats all kinds of stuff around me(healthy and not even healthy). Thank God I'm not even tempted.  I focus on when I am able to eat "regular" foods, how I can start cooking and decrease the calories on my favorites.  I'd reccommend that you try to  tune into your body. If its not head hunger you should have hunger pains..I dont know Princess. we are all learning together, but I will be praying for you.....

Hang in there..Peace and blessings...

Thanks for the welcome to the bench!  Despite the grumpiness I'm ecstatic to be here!!!

I feel better in knowing that 1) other folks feel this way (I just saw so many people who weren't even hungry!) and 2) that its worth it!  You know that you made the right decision -- but on the 5th fast food commercial you wonder what was so bad with being a bit fluffy :)  I know that I did this for better health -- to try and prevent the comorbidities that I have seen in my family -- but that doesn't mean there hasn't been a moment or two where some Taco Bell (which I didn't really like pre-banding!) or Hardees didn't look amazing (heck I'd almost kill for a carrot!) :P   I am working on controlling the head hunger --- and trying to start learning what real hunger or thirst will feel like.  I appreciate the prayers -- and even though we're both new, any advice you stumble on!  I'll be praying for your success too!

Hi there welcome to the other side of the journey.  I wish there was a quick and easy answer.  This soon out though I would bet most of your hunger is head hunger.  I remember being so swollen after surgery I really wasn't truly hungry for a good 2 weeks.  Try drinking water when you first feel 'hunger' try high protein snacks and drinks.  I've become a big fan of cottage cheese post op-the high protein content helps to fill me up.  Also string cheese or laughing cow cheese are hi protein snacks that will fill you up. Or if its sweets you're craving pudding or applesauce might help with the cravings.

Good luck and if I can be of any help, just ask!

I'm looking forward to cottage cheese!  Thanks for the advice -- sadly right now I'm on some odd liquid hybrid.  I can have SF jello, SF popcicles, water, broth, vegitable juice, and protine shakes.  Unfortunately for me the last two attemps at a protine enhanced item (one shake, one Unjry chicken soup) made me feel queasy and then made me feel hungry quicker than if I would have had a SF popcicle!  I think my body is just wierd :)

Thanks agian for the advice, I really appreciate this board and the love that I've been shown!

I hear you.  Its a hard adjustment and definitely a learning curve.  When I was newly out the Unjusry chicken broth was a God-send.  I loved that it filled me up and I enjoyed having something warm.

Good luck.
