General Question For Anyone...
Im looking into weightloss surgery as soon as possible...well as soon as I can lose these 23lbs im required to lose and I have a Dr/Hospital the whole shabang picked out HOWEVER I keep going back and forth between RNY or Lapband!! I guess my question is if you've had either surgery do u regret it in any way?? If so why? Thats original huh cuz im sure many have asked that one b4!! LOL. Thanks in advance for any info u can give.
Bigthighcutiepie!!
NOW U DONE ASKED THE RIGHT QUESTION CAUSE I LOVE TALKING ABOUT MYSELF. LOL
I HAD RNY AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD. IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE BUT I KNOW ME AND THAT'S WHAT I NEEDED. THE BAND SOUNDED LIKE IT WOULD BE TOO EASY TO CHEAT ON AND IF I'M GONNA GO THRU WITH SURGERY I WANNA MAKE SURE THAT IT WORKS. I NEEDED SOMETHING TO MAKE ME EAT RIGHT YOU KNOW. IT'S MORE RISKY THAN THE BAND BUT SO IS BEING UNHEALTHY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
IT'S NOT EASY TO MAKE THE DECISION BUT ONCE U DO STAY POSITIVE ABOUT IT NO MATTER WHAT. I HEARD A LOT OF HORROR STORIES RIGHT UP UNTIL THE DAY OF SURGERY BUT I STAYED POSITIVE CAUSE EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. HOPE THAT HELPS.

LOL! Oh my goodness YES that is very helpful!! And u said sum of the things that Ive been goin back and forth with..able to cheat easier on the band possibly and I need some serious discipline to assist me with a healthier lifestyle. AND I was also concerned that in the long run I might do better with the band due to the lifelong vitamin supplements and protien upkeep for the RNY and I am sooo nervous I wont get enough in and alll will b lost. Im happy that ur surgery is a success and keep it up girl!! Thanks
Bigthighcutiepie!!
I've had the RNY and I am pleased with my choice. I have no regrets. I did not even consider the lap band because I know I would have found a way to eat around it. Especially since I am in love with sugar. Whatever choice you make be informed. I skipped that part myself. I knew what I wanted and just did it. I made a good choice for most people you should really investigate both and decide. I was also nearly 400lbs so a lap band would have been a joke. I sometimes wish I had the chance at a D'S. But that was not your question. Be blessed and good luck!

Bigthighcutiepie..., somehow I like that name , everyone is different as to why they chose lap band or RNY, it is a personal decision that you need to pray on and discuss with your doctor.
Both surgeries are TOOLS, the only difference is they work differently, BOTH surgeries REQUIRE changing your eating habits and exercising to get to a very low BMI.
You can have SUCCESS with BOTH surgeries if you eat the recommended foods and exercise. Those who get RNY tends to lose quicker but NOT ALWAYS, there have been many many lap bandsers that have lost very quick too even myself, it depends on what you put into it.
RNY DO have more restrictions than lap band there is NO punishment for eating carbs or sweets, but keep in mind there are MANY RNY folks don't dump either so there is no guarantee that you will dump.
I chose the lap band because of lower complication risk and the adjustablility long term, I am going on 4 years and I have NO REGRETS and no problems and I have gone from a size 26 and was down to a size 10/12 and I have been as low as some 8s...and currently comfortably in a size 12 at 5''8 inches tall so I am happy with my size and can eat anything in peace; but only small amounts...I love my band.
Good luck

Good Morning
I chose RNY because it was the best choice for me. According to the BMI calculator, I had 200 lbs to lose, thus the lap band would do it to slow for me. Also I am not as disciplined enough to be successful with the lapband. My only regret in having RNY is that I did not know there were other surgery choices out there. Had I known, I would have done more research. That is not to say I still wouldn't have gone with RNY. What you have to do is do your research on all of the options avaialbe to you and make the best choice for YOU as there are pros and cons to every surgery. Only you know what you are capable of, only you know what you're willing to do to get this weight off.
Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted on what you decide!

i picked RNY cause i didnt want all the repeat visits for fills.....keeping my co-pays in my pocket.
Research them and and kepp in mind how much you have to lose while considering.
I have the Realize band and I love it. I have had a total of 3 fills since March 20, 2008 and my last one was in May so the repeat visits is not an issue for all, however everyone is different. You lose more slowly with the band but I'm told that overtime they equal out. I also like that adjustability because if I see I'm not losing I have the option to have and adjustment. In addition the surgery has fewer complications and there are not malabsorption issues with the band. Like Naomi said, I can eat anything I want in small amounts.

I think it is 6 inone hand and 1/2 dozen in the other.
I had RNY and I have lost over 200 lbs so far. However, I believe...well I know my mind is still at around 225 lbs. I have heard that with the band it is a slower weight loss. I think that if the weight loss was slower, it would give my mind and body time to get on the same page and I wouldn't be so dayum crazy about my weight and body all the time. But I am very, very happy with the decision to have RNY. Wouldn't change it for the world. I would probably have a few more session with the psychologist...
