Today is my last day at DHL Express. I have been here for 3 years and have mad so many friends. I am excited about what in store for me in the future but since i dont know whats in the future i dont know how to feel. I know the lord will take care of me in a way he already has because my company is paying our severance plus we can file for unemployment and food stamps but WOW! I have never been layed off before and dont like not having a job to come to on monday !

Coming from D-H-ell my self I will say first celebrate that God brought you out of that hell hole.

But seriously, you pray and you get on your grind.  You make sure the resume is on point and you don't quit pounding the pavement.  Don't believe the hype, there are plenty of companies hiring.  You just got to work hard to get in the door.  In this economy employers understand that you are laid off and it doesn't reflect your worth.

When I was laid off from Waste Management, I felt like my world would end.  I loved that job and didn't think the lay off would touch me.  I laid on the couch for 6 months before even looking because I was emotionally devastated.  Let me tell you when I got of my butt and started looking thats when I saw GOD really do the work.  So don't throw any pity parties.  Wake up get showered and dressed like you got somewhere to go, and get to looking.  You may not have a place to go to on Monday but you definitely got WORK to do and your JOB is looking for a job.  Don't rest.  Hit it everyday!!!!!  If you want to send me your resume I will do some searching for you I still have a lot of friends in management.

Working on me - want to be better in everyway not just physically!!!  Its a process no time to judge or be judged!!!!

i used being laid off as an opportunity to go into a different direction.  when it happened to me in '04, i used my severance to pack up and move to a new state.

I wish I had an answer to this question. I just got laid off last week. A week from today is my last day. I am trying to think of it as a blessing and a motivation to go in another direction which is something I have been wanting to do anyway. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do now.

I lost my job twice in 2003 and 2007. Both companies moved to states where they could pay lower wages. The first time I panicked, the second time I used my severance and retention bonus to pay bills up for several months and just chill while I mapped out my plan to return to school.

Figure out what you really want to do. Don't rush back into the workforce and a job that you don't really have a passion for.

I agree with Brenda R. Dont bwelieve that you are destined to be in the soupline . I was laid off  Nov 28th...............I was tired anyway. I was uneffected when they told me.

I had a handicap because of course it was around the holidays(both of them)so  I cascaded  my resume out  every day so when the holidays were over they would have it.

I also had my surgery 6 days ago ,I am able to rest  all I want and not worry about work...........and trust thats whats up

I have had 5 people call  this week for interviews..(just got home Monday from RNY)...........I scheduled them all for next  week starting Monday.I feel I should be OK for interviews and back home

Its out there....just make sure that you know that looking for a job should be treated as a job. We live in the internet era........get online, on the phone ,put your grown woman on and push that resume out from 9-5,trust they will get back to you soon.

If you lose your job another door will  open for you just stay positive and put your skills and knowledge to good use. Take this time to learn something new, perhaps change a career path, expand your horizons, stay positive and keep your head up.

ETA: try online sites like Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, and there are a host of other online webites that you can get tons of new job listings, just google them, also make sure you brush up your resume and to enhance all of your skillsets...good luck

I have never been laid off, fired, or asked to step down.

But, if it were me I would be somewhere enjoying myself and planning on what I would do with my free time.  I would imagine taking classes to improve my skills or make myself more employable.  Point is I wouldn't waste one minute worrying about the job I am leaving.  I would be rejoicing in the blessings that God is about to bring me.
