OT: Wednesday Afternoon Bird Quiz

This afternoon's bird is a "finch", (hint...hint), like this morning's bird.

This bird is more associated with being in Canada...but this year is known as an "invasion" year for this bird and they are showing up in good numbers here in the States. (Probably forced south because of a lack of food in their usual territory.)

Any guesses on the name of this bird???  (Notice the interesting bill.)

This would be the Red Crossbill.

Ok, White Winged Crossbill

CONGRATULATIONS TO HERSHEY DREAM.............................again.

This is indeed the White-winged Crossbill.  Crossbills have a very interesting bill.  Their bill is shaped like that because they actually eat the seeds out of pine cones and hemlock cones, and that shaped bill allows to perform this seemingly impossible task.
