I paid for my surgery since my insurance had an exclusion clause, however I paid up front in Dec 2008 and the surgery was Jan 2009.  If the surgery is deductible, is it for 2008 or 2009?

WLS is tax deductible and you can take the deduction if the total cost exceeds 7.5% of your adjusted gross income.

According to IRS, you can deduct them based either when you paid for them or when they were performed so based on that you can take them for this year's tax return.

Hope this helps.

I tell you... Hershey and Taw... you guys are the bomb.  That surgery is probably way more than 50% of my salary so hopefully I'm getting some money back.

You can also deduct for the mandatory vitamins and supplements that you purchase; just keep your receipts.

It most certainly is , and since you paid in 2008 , then you can claim it on this tax turn , did you have to pay it all??
