New Post-op Tip of The Day
This tip is for everyone, the pre-ops, new-ops and veterans. Your weight loss journey is your own. Don't compare your weight loss with anyone else. Everyone loses weight at a different rate. Men will lose faster than women and depending on your surgery type, will determine how fast you will lose weight.
Don't be discouraged if someone had surgery around the same time as you did and they hit their goal at 7 months and you're a year out and you have 30 lbs. or more to go. Work your tool, enjoy your journey, listen to your body and lose your weight.
Lap-banders lose weight slower than those who have had the RNY, DS, or VSG, however after 3 years we all should have reached the same weight loss goal. That is according to my research and the seminars I attended before surgery and I went to 3 different ones.
If I had a dollar for every time I've seen it written on OH that someone has lost more weight than I have and we had surgery at the same time, I would be a rich woman. I'm including myself in this statement because I've said it, typed it and thought it.
Embrace your journey and stop comparing. The only exception is that you're not losing anything and you can eat a lot of food, then you should discuss this with your dr. and they may need to run some tests and see if everything is working properly because sometimes things happen. Also everyone will go through a stall and that is a period of time when the scale doesn't move, it is normal and the scale will eventually move again.
