How long did it take you to get back to work after Laproscopic RNY?

Hi BAF!

I am scheduled to have RNY laproscopically (I hope - surgeon said he would try it but might have to convert due to an prior surgery I had ) on February 5.  I told my employer I would try to be back in 3 weeks- 2 weeks if I felt well enough - I get bored sitting at home.   I don't dig ditches for a living - my job involves sedendary office days 2- 3 days a week some local travel (about 150 miles per week) and some standing - when I'm in Court.  Do you think the 3 weeks was overly optimistic - I know it will be longer if the surgery ends up being done as an open procedure or if there are complications.

I took a full 6 weeks but I needed 4 weeks to recover.  I could have gone back after the 4th week but my surgeon was extremely careful and advised me to take 6 weeks.

Hi Rhonda

I had RNY Lap and I was out for 2 1/2 weeks with no complications.  I was doing office work--sitting at a desk all day.

I took off work 2 weeks.... actually I had it done over the Christmas break, and went back to work right after the new year. After the first week, I was good to go.... after two weeks I was ready... I kinda took it easy, but I was ok... Congratulations on your surgery date! You'll do well....

Thanks to all *****plied.  From the range of responses I guess I'll just have to see how I feel.  It is what it is, if I need more time I'll take it but knowing me, I will wean myself off the pain meds. asap as I hate to be without wheels.
