Barbara Walters Makes a shaky comment about Afro Americans
I am glad that the other black host on the show corrected her and advised her there were plenty of good role models in african american culture.and that the "huxtables" was a sitcom not reality...............
I cant beleive she said that!!..............typical
How do you feel about that statement?I was HOT.........she has got her "no talking, lisping" nerve!!!
Ms Cat
I often wondered where the real me has been? I then decided where the real me is going!!!
But, my question is, what have WE done to perpetuate that stereotype?
My take on it is that she obviously does not have alot of friends of color to make a backdated statement like that.
I live next door to a couple where the wife is divorcing her husband for molesting their 12 year old daughter? (not of color)
Should I stereotype that?I At the end of the day ,she is old and needs to get up to speed that alot has changed with that stereotype.........
I used to like BARBARA .............HMMMMMMMMMMMM

Why does Barbara Walters' comment even surprise you? We are super immersed in white/European culture. Having said that, I cannot say the reverse where white culture is concerned in knowing anything about our or any other non-white culture. So, that she doesn't know of any positive african-american male role models isn't suprising; most of what the average white american even knows about black america comes from television, anyway. So, does the fact that she says Bill Cosby's t.v. character is this positive role model really surprise you? It doesn't surprise me.
Just take it for what is it....an uninformed opinion.
"When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer." Plutach. Not true, for there are always more worlds to conquer.

I don't think Barbara meant any harm, but I think that she should have not made the comment maybe, because even though she prefaced it by saying, "maybe I should not say this but it's been said many times before." She should have left it for one of the black women on the panel to make that observation.

Afro-Americans?? Haven't heard that term since I was in grade school .
My thing is if we as "BLACK FOLKS" would FIRST clean up our own back yards (BLACK ON BLACK CRIMES, TEENAGE PREGNANCY, AIDS, MISSING BABY DADDY'S, ENSURING ALL OUR KIDS GET A COLLEGE EDUCATION INSTEAD OF BEING THRILLED BY RECEIVING JUST RECEIVING A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA IF THAT) we THEN can get upset by what the "Babara Walters" of the world say about US until them......
TYPICAL black folks pointing the finger at others except pointing it back at us... What else do THEY have to look at of the statistics show otherwise.
Obama 2009!!
Since Barbara's whole (lack of) character program got exposed in recent events, nothing she says surprises me.
I agree that Sherry should not be left to any of the heavy-lifting tasks on the show.
I think one thing that the inauguration seems to have brought out is some people's "liberties" in what they think is ok to say about black folks. Lots of backhanded "compliments" about how now black men will be responsible and now there are examples of decent black folks. A true mess.
