I went to the Inauguration and so glad that I did!!!!
When I went to bed on Monday night, I had no intentions of going to the Inauguration. I had all my excuses made and they sounded good to me.
1. It was going to be too cold. 2. The crowd was going to be crazy. 3. I will get a better view watching it on TV in my living room.
Woke up Tuesday morning, Thurman turned the TV on a little before 6 am and already they were talking about the crowd, how some folks came all the way from CA to be part of this historical moment. I looked a Thurman and he said "It does not makes any sense us living this close and not going". "If you can find the fleece head gear, I think I can make sure that I am warm enough to go down there".
I found the fleece head gear all the time thinking that he is playing with my emotions cause God knows that man hates the cold and can't understand why I go out walking in the cold. I got out all the other fleece gear that we have (fleece is my best friend in the winter time)
We drove to the greenbelt metro.....yes there was a huge crowd there, it took us almost 2 hours standing in line to get in the metro to catch a train. We go as close as we could, yes we had to walk almost 2 miles to get there. And I can honestly say, I have never in my 47 years of living seen so many folks in one place, I wasn't cold because I had on many many layers of clothes, but the positive energy in that place was something that I don't think I can even begin to describe. Watching all those folks walking out to be sitted on that big screen, it was something that I will never forget and I am so so happy that I can say I was part of history being made. When I am old and toothless, I can turn to my grand baby and tell her that granny was there back on 20 January 2009.

I had not interest in watching this. I am a reader or a hearer, so I was not excited to watch this on tv....
My 7 year old granddaughter was so excited about this ...I watched it with her and explained to her what was happening, I am a softy and cried so many times about things I saw and felt about people and how God blesses. I told my g-daughter there were people there that I actually knew. That excited her. I knew many who planned to go not sure if they made it..
But I am glad that I did not lie and I can tell her and my other grandchildren the I had people I love standing out in the cold weather 1/20/09 watching the first black man become President. Thank you for sharing this and helping me spread our history....

LaVerne...I'm soooo proud of you going...cause now you won't have to lie to your grandkids like the rest of us who watched it on TV will.
"Grandpapa...Grandpapa...were you there?"..."Yeap...if you look close enough you can see me in this photo by the Washington Monument. Jump up on my knee...and I'll tell you alllllll about the day I met the first Black President....of the United States of America."
