I am FUMING!

I am so pissed about what some jackass said over on the Main Forum, which is why I normally don't even go there. Now a particularly jubilant individual posted that today was a triumph in American history. I could not agree more, I am 22 and an African American history and Political Science major, and I never thought what I saw today, the swearing in of a BLACK president would ever happen in MY lifetime. Now some utter ignoramous had the gall to post this:

How does electing a president overcome adversity and the throws of racism....?

I personally would rather wait and see how he does before judging anything."

Though, I am part of a younger generation and didn't live through the race wars and haven't really ever experienced racism in my life. (I just have experienced what come along with being overweight).  That's probably why I just don't see the connection.  I can understand where she is coming from, it's just a really bold statement to me.

It's not just about being black! Every day millions of Americans are discriminated against because of factors that they cannot control. Whether it be their race, sexuality, or ethnicity, people are still not equal, and racism and discrimination are still prevalent!

 While I don't think you are wrong for being ticked  off, the energy wasted isn't worth it. Some people just don't get how momentous this occasion is, and they never will. You can spend the time explaining what it means, but there are some people who will never get it, and they are perfectly happy in their ignorance.

No one can tell you that you are wrong to feel how you feel.  I would just say I don't see what he said as being too bad.  Just a different opinion.  You don't know how we feel if you haven't been in our shoes.

Girl, I had to stay away from some places today because of ignorant statements. I've been a member of a private board for over 4 yrs. and I went over there and they were dogging Obama out, what Michelle was wearing, what Aretha had on her head, how lame Obama's speech was etc. I had to log out because it is a small group and I am the only black person. And some of my co-workers were saying things that made me mad too. I can't do stupid.

I read your reply and it as very well written.  I sugest you don't waste anymore energy on some of the idiots you will find on the MB. 

Actually you will find a lot of idiots in general on the internet-they;re not worth your time.

Why get upset, just articulate how you differ. If you have a Rationale for what you say, then articulate it intelligently. If you are going on a feeling, try to articulate that feelng. That person can't relate to you so you must try to educate that person to a different perspective. have you tried answering his question (s), because if you look at the call of the question, his rationale is true (a person's ethnicity/race can not  "overthrow" racism. So, what can an African American as President  in the USA DO/represent... You must take the opportunity to Educate not become hostile.

You mentioned that you are a PoliSci Major...I don't know if you are thinking of becoming a Lawyer, but if you are, then you will need to familiarize yourself with the Art of debate. Rational debate is like revenge, it's a dish Best served cold!

I've learn a long time ago it's a waste my energy and time to try to change people mind people will think what they want. We got him now they need to work with him. He can't do the job in a day, No he's not a God Nor a Saint. Just the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. If they want a change they will have to help with the changes.  This is a great moment for a lot of people but not all feel that way.  Just like a lot of people cry, when they annouced they he was President-elect I seen my FATHER cry for the second time in a Month One we had to tell him my brother was going to be battle colon cancer. I ask him what he thought he saided like all of our elder's he thought. Never in his live time he would see this. So if you have an elder ask them an enjoy their look on their faces forget what other have to say. I say YES LORD OH YES LORD.

I'll say this....don't be mad......mad won't solve anything, and mad only wastes your time and energy.   If anything, be disheartened at the fact that this individual just doesn't get it....on even the most basic level, this person just does not get the vision.  But the truth is....there are so many that don't fully grasp the depth and breadth of what is unfolding before us.  This is SO FAR BEYOND us having a Black President...this is bigger than black and white, it's bigger than America.  Israel pulled out of Gaza in honor of the inauguration!  I am not going to get on soapbox and stay on it....but do folks really understand that?  They have been fighting since before Jesus walked this earth....Israel realized less than 20 casualties, Gaza over 1200....Israel was "winning" and they said, "We're gonna fall back before Barack takes the oath".  They have been fighting for THOUSANDS of years - and they will continue to fight....but this was not a mere cease fire....they pulled out in the midst of battle to show respect to a country that has shown no respect to anyone for almost a decade. 
There is an adage right now that says this is the "end of an error".  And, it is a cute play on words.  But, in order for Barack to have been elected SO MANY things had to have been in play.  We needed George W. Bush to be the power-hungry,  illiterate moron that he was in order for there to be an appreciation for a compassionate intellectual.  We needed the two wars, the economic crisis, Sarah Palin, rising unemployment, etc.  And we needed THIS PARTICULAR black man....not a black man that's bi-racial.  But a black man that acknowledges his heritage in its fullness, but stands strongs in his BLACKNESS but has a global mindset and perspective - firsthand. 
All of this is too much for it to be merely the swearing in of the first Black President.  We witnessed the hand of God at work today.  Whatever God it is that folks believe in, y'all need to recognize that that God is showing you miracles are going to happen.  Not because Barack is the messiah...he is just a man...a man with a purpose...and we all have a purpose.   But because the world needs a renewal of hope....a restoration of faith....and this is just the beginning of that phase on this earth.
So...don't be mad....be sad that the poor person on the main forum doesn't have the least bit of insight to even recognize the smallest meaning of today.   And be glad that you do....today is a great day....
