Howdy,
As a person with a doozy of a name I must say that parents shouldn't do it.

I was actually named after two aunts, one born in 1918 and the other in 1921. How my grandmother came up with these names is beyond me and my mother who gave my siblings common down to earth names decided to bless/curse me with the name of Quettia Annisree. (pronounced Qu-etta Ann-is-ree)

I was fortunate to not have any issues with obtaining employment, but I caught hell during my school years, so having an odd name does have its repercussions.

i tell you this - as a hiring manager - if I see a resume with some **** I can't pronounce by reading the damn paper - there is NO interview!!!!!

I once had a guy on my team in a call center named Mister.  Father named him that to 'ensure' he would always be respected...... I was so glad to get that mofo OFF my team - I took countless escalation calls behind people thinking he was ****** with them.......

My daughter's name is Kayla Michelle.  There are NUMEROUS girls named this her age - and I am good with that.  Her resume will fall across someone's desk and she will get a call, if she has the qualifications - rather than get trashed behind not being able to read past her name.......

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I'm with Hershey, I hated my name growing up Tihisha (Ti-hee-sha). lol
I've come to embrace it now trying to set myself aside from Tiesha's.  The funny thing is that black people are the ones that have a problem pronouncing it.  White people say it right every time. go figure.
I was having none of that.  My daughter's name is Taylor with the original spelling but folks always want to call her tylor b/c of my nickname ty .

The unusual names like Apple only work when you're rich.
Apple in the hood doesn't have the same affect.

I had always HATED my name when I was growing up. I'm OK with it now, I generally get compliments on it from people of all races. I guess I don't know if my name sounds particularly 'ethnic' or not. What I HATE is why do we always have to put apostrophes where they aren't needed? Seriously! It's bad enough the names are 10+ letters and barely pronounceable, and on top of all that they throw in the apostrophe. Geez.

I definitely think being a recruiter and a hiring manager for several years affected the naming of my children.  My sons are named Chase Paul and Chance  Paul (I thought about Chancellor but went with Chance and the Paul is my dead fathers name) well anywho when I worked as a recruiter there were companies that didn't even want to see a resume if it had an ethnic name or ethnic school.  We have to know that racism is not dead in our society and not do anything that places limits on our kids.  With that said, you can overcome the name thing with skill and talent.  After all look at President Obama!!!!

Working on me - want to be better in everyway not just physically!!!  Its a process no time to judge or be judged!!!!
