What's In a Name?
i really like how Ving Rhames named his daughter Reign Beau (rainbow) lol and i liked Apple...but when akids name is like Candace and they spell it Candience...that drives me nuts lol...added all them letters just makes it harder for the kid to spell they name

I think when black folks give ther kids overly ethnic names it puts them at a disadvantage. When you call a place and identify yourself with a ethic name your assumed black and service may not be as good, when you fill out a job application the chances of Shequanda's resume far out weighs Tiffany's chaces of being thrown in the trash or not passed on. When calling for a home for rent, it is more likely that Shequanda will be told that house is no longer for rent while Tiffany will call a second later and will be offered a tour.
I did a study and lecture tour on ethnic names before and it is amazing how much weight a name holds especially when it is ethnically identifiable.

Some parents just don't realize how much of an impact a child's name has on their self-esteem, future etc. Like the actress that named her daughter Apple....WTH! Come on now. I don't see anything wrong with ethnic names if they have meaning. Overly made up names, that's a mess. And people naming their children after the populars of today ie....Beyonce, Kanye, etc.....that's silly too.
