Has the dream come true?

I now see even more significance of the portion that we all know  condensed to the "I have a Dream" Speech.

CNN just played the entire speech and the beginning of the speech talks about the fact that the US has wrote black America a "bad check". It also talked about the fact that we can not sit on the sideline and allow this to continue but also we re not to lower ourselves to violence and hate. THEN it winds up with the I have a dream piece.

I don't think that the dream has been obtained. Not until we don't have these historic first. I don't think that its realized until there is more than the one "token" manager or department head in an organization. When the work is done by the "slaves" of rank and file employee who look more like me than the folks I have meetings with on a daily basis.

Until the high school graduation rates of black males are just as high as other races and statistically at least 2 of my 6 nephews will either be dead or in jail before they are 25 the dream is not achieved.

Until we have less baby mamas and baby daddies that weren't husbands and wives and girls that think getting a job means getting a baby to get a check

Until we as a people have spent less money on depreciating wealth (clothes, shoes, concerts, VIP at the clubs and cars) than on true wealth (stocks, CD's, Bonds, houses, education, art, and real jewelry,

Until we that are making a living whether blue collar or white give back to our communities and show that WE are the real role models our children should be looking at.

Until WE as a people stop using our color as the reason that we are not knocking walls down in our own lives and rising above our cir****tances and living in our potential

The nation has paid a "down payment" on that a dream but yall don't think one man in one position is all we are due.

I have nothing to add...

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

i so agree...but we must all do our part..."Change" that is such a big word....in order to see some of those changes you mentioned it must start with US...what are we teaching our children...are we still buying new cars and living in the projects, are we still getting our hair fried, died and laid to the side and our lil ones look like shiot...we as people have to make a change...there's that word again...as well as a commitment to our children and our childrens children..change starts with us..

great post...

be belessed,
