I think that its not just a monumental moment for our men to take their rightful place as Commander and Chief but its also a time for the ladies to stand up and cheer for the representation of ALL the SISTAH'S our First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama!

No, that's not June Cleaver you see

If you see lots of black women wearing pearls on Inauguration Day, chalk it up to a nationwide email that’s making the rounds.

Its origins are unknown to the Qcitymetro Inauguration Blog, but the delicate pink missive encourages "girls" to wear a string of pearls on Jan. 20 in salute to incoming First Lady Michelle Obama, who has done more than anyone since June Cleaver to make pearls fashionable.

An attachment to the email reads as follows:

Join Camp Girlfriend as we salute our new First Lady by wearing pearls on Inaugural Day.
No matter where you are you can participate in this salute. Its simple -- wear pearls. Little girls, big girls, all girls...let’s wear pearls!

Contact your family and girlfriends and ask each one to ask everyone to wear pearls on January 20, 2009. To work, to school, the Inauguration, the balls, in front of the TV. Girls will be wearing pearls.

What a wonderful keepsake for us all to have -- pearls in recognition of Inaugural Day.

Thanks for your support and participation and tell every “girl" you know.

Our Qcitymetro bloggers received the email from Joan Thompson Miller, who has delighted in mentoring Charlotte-area girls and young women.

Miller said she “definitely" will be wearing her pearls come Inauguration Day.

“Because Michelle is there, we are there as well," Miller said. “What an honor to have her there."

It's funny that you would post this......my Pastor reminded us to wear our pearls on Tuesday.  They have even postponed Bible Study for everyone to be with thier families to enjoy the activities.

I think pearls are the ultra chic.  My daughter wears her pearls everyday. She started out with diamonds but I like pearls better.  All of the older women that I encounter always comment on her pearl earrings. These are the first or many things that will be passed down to her.  I hope she remains "girlie".
The question that I am asked most often:
 Is that your hair??????

Girl I have the entire set earrings, bracelt and necklace....I will be pearled out. I don't wear them because I like dangly earrings and unless my hair is pulled back the pealrs don't do it. I'm the woman I HAVE to wear a pair of earrings or am nakked the entire day. I would love to do that for my daughter and give them to her knowing that I wore them the day of this particular inaugaration.

I will wear mine, although I am off work on Monday and Tuesday.  I have a pearl necklace and earrings that belonged to my husband's grandmother (my MIL gave them to me).  I will wear them with pride!
