ok I am only 2months post op but I'm gonna tell you what i'm doing...

Vitamins:
2- (Centrum multivitamin chewables)
1 tsp Liquid Calcium
1- Flinstones Vit with Iron
1 Vit B12 under tounge (1 weekly)

Protien Shakes - I use Isopure protein Strawberry

I had my labs done last week and all my levels are good thus far no deficiencies

Now as far as hair, I have not lost any, however i hear that hair comes out  between 4-6months. I have long thick hair, and i am dreading the thought of losing my hair.

I take 1 Biotin (5000mcg) per day to strengthen my hair against loss/shedding

ETA: I wont be doing the Flinstone Vitamin anymore after this bottle is gone, I'm switching these and my multivitamins to a Bariatric form)

hope this helps... Glad you posted this topic, I am curious to know what others are using too

Vitamins:
2 Flinston cheawbles with Iron
2 calcium supp
1 b-12 once a week
protein
Whey Protein from Walmart

As far as hair I've lost some I was one that wasn't very attached to my hair (said I'd just cut it or wear a wig) but when it began to happened I did freak out. It lasted about 3 months (from 3-6 post-op)

You will get a little depressed but the benefits of the surgery far outweigh that.

I'm going to honest with you about the Flinstones, I don't like them for wls patients because they are for children and we are adults and we need adult vitamins. My surgeon and many surgeons suggest flintsones but that is while you are healing. Many people argue that their labs are good so that they are ok. It sometimes takes a year or 2 before a deficiency shows up. That's my lecture about flintstones, sorry.

With that said, I take Centrum, a b-12 sublingual. b-1, b-6, calcium citrate very important (some people are taking  calcium carbonate and that does not work for a wls patient's body), I don't take iron because I had a hysterectomy and I don't menstruate. I take biotin and vitamin D also.

Biotin does not keep your hair from falling out but will help it grow back. I've lost a lot of hair but it didn't start happening until about 6 months out. I'm lucky that I had enough hair for 3 people or I would be wearing a wig right now and if I could find a wig that looked right on me I would wear it anyway for versatility. Be sure to get your protein in and that will help with your hair situation.

well let me reiterate......

in case i confused the person who posted this form...

No Biotin does not prevent hair loss, I take the biotin in hopes that when it occurs (as I'm certain it will) maybe i wont lose as much. ....strictly my theory

In regards to the Flintstones I agree 100% my surgeon told me last friday to get rid of the Flintstones and upgrade to a Multivitamin and Iron designed specifically for Bariatric Patients

as far as the lab results I wasn't arguing anything it was just a simple statement...

Bottom Line ask your Nutrionist/surgeon what they want for you...

No argument from me. I started out on Flinstones myself. I started taking Biotin before surgery hoping that I wouldn't lose any hair. I just have read some horror stories on other boards of people still taking Flinstones at 3 yrs out and they are showing vitamin deficiencies, that's all I was saying. As Hershey stated, some people never lose any hair at all, some lose a little and some lose a lot.

I wasn't discounting what you were saying. It's all good

Ok....let's see.

Vitamins:  I take Women's One A Day multi with Iron, Calcium Citrate (this is important, do NOT get the Calcium Carbonate), Biotin, Super B-Complex

Protein:  It took me awhile to find a protein shake that I like.  I'm 3 years post-op and my absolute favorite is the Syntrax Nectar brand, I love the Roadside Lemonade and Twisted Cherry but all of the flavors are good.  These are more like punch....I couldn't stand the milky type varieties.

Hair:  My hair grew like crazy right after surgery (i assume from the increase in protein), around 4 months I experienced a little shedding, but nothing major.  Some people lose a little, a lot, or none at all.  Keeping up a good hair care regimen is important.  I can't say if the Biotin prevented major shedding because I've always taken it and continue to do so.  Now....my texture kind of changed.  I had super thick hair and a perm would never really fully relax it, now it seems like I can put it in and wa**** out within a matter of minutes and my hair is super straight.

Life is not about making it through the storm....but learning how to dance in the rain.

Vitamins: Centrum Chewable (Orange flavor ) once a day;  Calcium Citrate (mango flavored), b-12, b complex.

Protein: I use everything from Isopure to Designer Whey, to the Syntrax Nectar  flavors. My tastes change almost weekly, so I have a lot of powders, and ready to drink proteins and I alternate. I also like the EAS Carb Advantage chocalate protein drink. I get a pack of for from Walmart for less than $5.

Hair Loss: I'm having some shedding now, but not massive amounts. Oddly with the shedding, my hair is growing longer, maybe from the protein. I am taking biotin, and my stylist is using a biotin shampoo and conditioner on me. I haven't noticed that it stopped the shedding, but I'm gonna continue to use it, I guess because it makes me feel better, and it can't hurt anything.

Good luck to you.

Thanks to you all for the feedback.Good looking out.
I  have been drinking pre op for this liquid diet the Atkins protein shakes and  they are very flavorful. They have 15gr of protein  per shake.

Also I ran across these packages of Special K  protein water mixes to add to water.............they taste aaaaight. But the benefit is that they add  protein to your water consumption(5gr)

I am still sippin on these liquids, first nervous about how close I am, but just got on the scale and said "Oh hell no ...let me hurry up and get going  outta here Friday"

Godspeed .......... BAF  sisters
