Not just president for blacks, president for all!

Ok, I know that more than likely I am alone on this one but, I am going to say it anyway. I've been watching coverage of  the inauguration on CNN and I am getting a little tired of the whole race thing. Now don't get me wrong, I am extremely proud to have the first bi-racial president, and honestly thought it would be the days of my great grandchildren before the day came. I just think that over at CNN they are making it all about race. They just introduced a lady whose mom protested her having a black roommate at Princeton and the roommate turned out  to be Michelle Obama.

I know how big this is, I know that it's history in the making, and I know the fact that a non-white president being elected is HUGE. I just don't think it's necessary to constantly dwell on his color. I think one of the main reasons that so many people voted for him is because not only is a president for black people, he is the president for ALL people.

This is HUGE...I'm from the south not just living here in Atlanta but a small town in Arkansas where I remember NOT when my mom or grandmother but when I was growing up a pool that we had in our town as a "white pool" and the white side and black side AND when a bigotted ignorant mam shot at me and some black students as we walked home. By the way I'm only 31.

I think that looking back at the history of the US this is DEFINITLEY about race not just that he's black (biracial) but that the MAJORITY of whites also voted for this man and we are still on this journey.  This event is bigger than Obama its about my nephews who last year wanted to be lke 50 cent or TI and now sees school as cool and a new path for African American men.

I understand your perspective. I do know how big this is to have our first bi-racial president. I just don't think that spending hours (CNN) discussing race is necessary.

Uh oh a Yess speech cometh

GOOD GAWD I want to THANK YOU!!!!! I agree 500%

In 2009 I've been resolving to keep my big mouth shet but I thought that I was alone on this one too. Moms and I discussed this on today during the program. Granted I was touched when they showed the struggle of the late Marian Anderson, but that was from my personal perspective. I consider myself to be very radical but fair is fair, I do not like the fact that every horrid thing that happened to our race is supposed to be suddenly & magically "ok" now that we have our first African American President elect.

I noticed on Friday night that the History channel was airing the documentary: Klu Klux Klan A Secret History. It was NOT by pure chance that they aired that documentary.

Another thing that is REALLY REALLY (sayin it super fast) reallyreally...bothering me is this historic Presidency being tied TOTALLY into Dr. King's dream.

Don't get me wrong, I understand what is meant and the importance BUT Dr. King NEVER once said that he had a dream that there would be a negro President. His dream focused on all of America having a fair shake of the benefits of life in general not just the high places. This has not totally happened, so therefore I do not buy the "Dr. King's dream being realized propoganda. We still have a lonnnnnnnggggg way to go.

If all of this were the case and Dr. King's dream has been realized then with shame I will have to believe that we as a people have wandered in the wilderness for 40 years just like the Isarealites and I personally believe that MANY advances that Dr. King wanted for the people of America  has taken place these last 40 years and having our first A/A Commander and Chief is not the reason to suddenly stop striving for our civil rights.

President Elect Obama being elected is a direct result of more than Dr. King's dream...give he as an intellegent individual some credit too. Give credit to those of all ethnicities that either made a change, or decided that they would NOT follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, and most importantly give credit to God. Americans of African descent are NOT the sole reason that President elect Obama was elected.

Dr. King was a great man that I truly admire, but I feel that his place in history should not be taken from nor added too, as the same for our President Elect. Even our President elect  has been very conservative in how he addresses the "dream" and I am so glad that he included many more of the people on the Mall who helped to pave the way for us in todays speech.

I feel you. I know that for each person it is different and I respect that totally. I just don't think that some are being fair to themselves or Barack Obama to think that his being elected is going to change all the struggles that african americans have faced and/or will face (as you pointed out). Racism that existed before will exist after. I am just happy that we have a president with whome it seems the majority can relate to and that can represent the majority of people. I didn't vote for him because he was black, I voted for him because I believed in his vision of change and that he represented all people. His being bi-racial is just a HUGE added bonus that shows how far our country has come.

Oh I agree with you on that! I think some people acting like he's Jesus. There is a difference when we talk about Barack the man and this "moment". You also have to remember that some folks don't just sit and watch the same cahnnel everyday. The purpose for CNN to repeat is for those folks that are tuning in for a minute or two. Once again I think there is a difference between THIS moment of electing the first non-white man (I wouldn't care who it was) for our country and from Obama being the vessel from which this came through. I think he is a great orator, a smart man, and was the better man despite the fect that he was black. Also we have to be congnizant that this is not just America watching but the rest of the world and the media is trying to get some advertisemnt that America isn't as bad as Bush made the people seem.

I know that is how CNN usually operates but today has been basically live footage and hasn't been their regular repeat loop. It was funny because after spending all day talking about the "black" factor the reporter said "ok we are going to discuss the white elephant in the room, the race issue". Really?..lol

On being Bi-Racial. At what point is a person NOT bi-racial, and crosses the Black threshold?

There are sooo many African Americans that have 50/50 white/black DNA (Skin Color means NOTHING!) Then there are those with less than 50/50% DNA.  So, what I am getting from YOU is that if you are first generation "mixed race" then the person is bi-racial, or maybe not...what the HECK ARE YOU saying with this Bi-Racial stuff?

I think a person should be self defined if they can. Obama has claimed his ethnicity as African American (which he Truly is). Tiger Woods claimed his...Blasian (some bull, whatever...black/white/asian); Halle Berry has claimed hers>>>African American; Mariah Kerri (spelling cause I don't listen to her music) claimed her ethnicity>Mixed or none???; we all claim who we are. I know folks who have 2 Black American Parents who still check the "Mixed Box" cause they say that their great, great, great grand somebody on their daddy's side or maybe their momma's side was white. Obama does NOT deny his mother or her heritage(a person would be a FOOL to Deny any part of themself) but he CLAIMED his Ethnicity>>>African American; can't you respect that (just like Ali claimed his Religion>>>isn't that due Respect?)

Again, at what point are we who WE say we are...are there some rules or summ I missed?

PS: Anybody with any sense KNOWS Mr. Obama is NOT the President for ONE group of People or ONE ethnicity...He is a Democrat too, but he also represents Republicans!

Whatever you think you are "getting from me" is obviously wrong. I believe a bi-racial person to be someone who is two (hence the bi) races (hence the racial). Last time I checked Barack Obama was born to a black father and white mother and that to me equals Bi-racial. As far as his DNA, wouldn't know that haven't tested a sample nor do I care to.

P.S. When I saw your name on the post I figured that you would come with something that would be a bit controversial just from the other posts that you "attempted' to stir up things with. Do me a favor though...if you decide to try to steal any portion of my post like did with Mack Mama, give a sister (hope that's ok to say to you..lol) a little credit for it.

Thanks! oh yeah and let me know when you find out how much of President Obama's blood is black and how much is whitel..lol.
