Salad after surgery
Hey everyone,
I put this on the main board but I wanted to post it here too so that I can get your feedback as well. So here's what I wrote:
"Hello all,
I was a big salad eater before surgery and since it is a daily staple in my house I have seriously been craving a small one but am too scared to try one. Watching my family eat them is slowly driving me mad, lol. I am one month and a few days out."
I would give the tip of my right pinky to have some skinless cucumbers, red onions and an boiled egg in some red wine vinegar with pepper, lol.

Your system is probably not ready for salads yet. It probably won't tolerate it. Just have patience, you'll be able to stand it soon enough. I'd start small first to see what I could actually tolerate, then go from there..but I'd wait at least another month or so. At least.
I think the mistake a lot of us make is in trying to do too much way too soon. Hell, I tried to eat pastrami when I was about six months post-op and ended up thowing it up and OUT. lol.
Just take ur time, have patience and you should be fine.

It depends on what your NUT=nutritionist says. My nut wouldn't allow salad for 6 months and I craved them soooooo much. So I would just eat some grilled chicken strips with boiled eggs and cottage cheese with some salad dressing until I could have the real thing. I must say that before I knew that it was wrong I was eating them at 8 weeks out and chewing very well but instead of lettuce I used spinach because it was healthier but when I told my nut she was very up set with me. I still haven't tried cucumbers because I never liked them.
Thank you guys, I have another appointment in another week so I will ask then but figure it will probably be a no go after reading the responses on here and on the main board so I will wait. Again thank you for your feedback

I've always been a big salad eater too. My Surgeon said at least 3mos after surgery because salad ingredients are hard to digest thus hard on the new pouch. Mmmmm never had nothing taste so good when I finally got one.
Well, I was able to at 6 weeks post op. My NUT's thought was try it at 6 weeks if it din't bother the pouch it was good if it bothered try it again a little later because everyone heals differently.
I think that's why each surgeon/nut is different some are real conservative and say 6-9 months and some like my surgeon are very libreal. Talk to your surgeon and good luck

Vegatable can be hard for a newbie to digest....like everyone else suggested I would wait a minimum of 6 to 9 months before trying it. I remeber trying soe early out and a peice of the salad got stuck in the exit of my pouch and I couldnt get that sucker to move for nothing....for about 3 days I couldnt eat nothing felt so sick behind that .
