Newbie: did this happen to you?
I was asked to share the suggestions my surgeon made for me which increased my weight loss.
I am 7weeks post op and as a newbie I was excited of course to see the weight dropping off, however my surgeon said i should be losing more than what i have been. I noticed that the scales would either stay still or go up. So I'm like what am i doing wrong. I dont want to be one of those people the surgery didnt work for. I always read how much others were losing and saying how come i didnt lose as much as her, but I have been told to stop comparing myself to
others (thanks #1 MM)....
So at my appointment last week I was just about in tears. My doctor sat down and went over everything i eat on a daily basis, he told me absolutely no juice, he also told me to cut out the sugar free kool aid, crystal light for now and replace with water, water, water, he said anything that leaves a sweet taste in the mouth rather its sugar free or not will actually signal the brain that you are hungry, and you will find yourself munching within an hour after a meal (i 'm no expert on how the body works but that's what he said).
He told me to eat more fresh fruit (not too much cuz it has alot of natural sugar so be careful)and vegetables (for fiber) and to watch my sodium, I was eating alot of chef-boyardee products cause they have 12g of protein in that little bitty can, but..... they also have 10,000mg sodium!!!! (lol) this was causing me to retain water. He also has me replacing beef with lean turkey for now.
He increased my thyroid meds to speed up my metabolism and told me to stay off of the toning machines at the gym and focus on cardio.
In a nutshell where i was making my mistakes is i was so focused on getting in that P*R*O*T*E*I*N that i wasnt counting my calories (big mistake)
I followed his rules and at my appointment with him last friday I was 248... 7 days later I am 240.5....that's why he gets paid the big bucks...
NOw I'm not trying to be anyone's doctor or nutrionist, i am telling you this is what worked for me. If you are gaining weight back like i was or the scales just arent moving go visit your nutrionist or doctor to revamp your eating habits... I wish all you newbies the best

No, I haven't experienced your dilemma. But I wanna say members Cookie and James Hudson both posted in the past about sugar free drinks and how it signals the brain to eat more carbs or something like that. I couldn't tell you the facts behind it verbatim, but I do recall them mentioning something to that affect.
Your doc sounds like the bomb! Congrats on losing 8 more pounds.!
My life is like McDonalds....I'm Lovin It
That's great that you're back on track!
