I am not tired at all the next day and I too can only sleep for about 5-6 hours. I used to have a hard time getting to sleep but once I did it was over, lol. I don't take sleep meds and have been trying not to take my liquid Roxicet because I don't want to become dependent on it to sleep. I have taken it to sleep a few times but I don't like how I feel the next day whenh I wake up. I am one month and a few days out and have lost 49 pounds up as of today.

My goal 135; current 132;  pre-op highest 285; I have lost more than I weigh...  I my RNY!

Have you tried Valarian Root?  It's a herb sold at health food stores.  It doesn't make you groggy and spacey like prescription meds.  It relaxes your nervous system.  You take it an hour before you want to go to bed.   Warning: this **** stinks like hell.  If you get it, remember to unscew the top, put the capsules in the top and drop the capsules into your mouth from the top; otherwise the smell will be on your hands and it is hard to get it off (so I have heard).  One day last week, I only had 30 mins. of sleep (and I am being generous when I say that). If I want a good night's rest, I take Valarian Root.  It is non-addicting also.
Without struggle, there is no progress.

I have some of that myself - same effect as other things - groggy and unfocused the next day for me.  Truthfully - I don't have a problem falling asleep - I just don't fall 'soon' enough for me - on my own I go to sleep at 11 or so - I prefer to be asleep at 9:30 JUST CAUSE....... not cause I am tired, not cause I don't feel well - just to be sleep!  lol

I read Dr. Oz's book "You The Owners Manual" and basicall what it says is that when you are over weightand and/or simply unhealthy the body requires more sleep than the average person.  You need the extra sleep to recharge and release toxins in the body.  So the fact that all of you lucky post op's sleep less means that you all are healthy.  I on the other hand I have yet to take my place on the loosers bench so I'll probably wake tomorrow reluctantly around 10:00 (only because my daughter will want some attention and then I'll be wanting a nap to catch up on the rest of my sleep soon there after.  I envy you not needing to sleep the majority of the day away.

ciao,

WOW - that's perspective!  Here I am complaining about being up longer - didn't i have WLS to be able to live a better, healthier life?  I'm a freakin idiot!!!  LOL

You have a GREAT point - with all the water, vitamins, exercise and all that - there aren't as many toxins for my body to deal with - I treat my body WAY better now than before - so 'recharge' is not the process it USED to be.

File this under the 'mental adjustments of WLS' category.  Just like we all sometimes still fix a FULL plate of food knowing we are outta line for that...... just like we all sometimes still grab a size that we no longer have any business taking off the rack in the store - I guess we also have to adjust to the new 'needs' of our body - and not just food.  hmmmmmm

I really appreciate this insight - I am listening and will take heed!! Hey - let us know how you're doing!

Awww dang.  There goes my RNY theory..... LOL!!!!

So - are you tired during the day or are you 'refreshed'?  Because I am not tired, I think my body is getting what it needs - just not what I want......

I never sleep 8 hours ever, so I wouldn't know what it felt like. The most I ever get in a night is 5-6hrs. That's all I really need.
