Sleep - post WLS.......... (warning: long)

My mind is OUT of the gutter - calm down.....

So - we have discussed on several posts how a lot of post WLS folk can't sleep or have trouble either falling or staying asleep post WLS.  Lots of folk use sleep pills and/or alcohol to get to lala land........

I don't know about other folk - but using the sleep pills would have me groggy during the day, made it difficult to concentrate.  Even the prescription Rozerem would have me foggy.

So when I gave up drinking - I decided to give up the pills too.  Curious thing - I found that I only sleep about 6 hours a night - mostly straight through (sometimes not) but I am not tired during the day and actually have really great focus.

However - I MISS SLEEP!!!!  When I was fat - MAN - I could lay down and be like a cheesebuger fed Sleeping Beauty!  Wasn't nothing for me to kill 10 -12 on the weekends - 8-10 during the week unless you wanted a cussin!!!!!

Sooooo - I wonder...... 1) does the body not need all that sleep cause it ain't gotta carry around all that azz no mo?  2) is this restlessness we THINK we feel just us missing our previous routine or are we REALLY tired and 3) what's so bad about being up anyway?  I freaked my boss and staff out today.... was in at 7:45 - no lunch, stayed till 5:30 - stopped ONLY cause I had to pick up babygirl - I WOULD have gone to workout tonight but I have my dance class in the AM tomorrow.....

So what are your thoughts?

I'm in the same boat maybe we have more energy now so it takes more to get you to that place of fatigue? So you can either step up the activities to make your body want the 8 hrs or settle for 6. i can do only do 8 but most nights I get about 6-7 with no ill effects. This is a good question to ask during support next week.

I have been dealing with this issue since I hit 190 2yrs ago.  I believe its because my arse don't need as much sleep as I used to due to the large amount of weight that I lost.  Just like you, it was nothing for me to sleep for 10-12 hours a day and I still felt like I didn't get enough sleep.

I was soooo frustrated that I did do all kinds of sleeping pills from over the counter to prescription.  I still can't fall asleep on my own.  I did the drinking thing before bed as well.  I pretty much stopped that because I noticed that I can consume a whole bottle of wine before I fall asleep. Lawd knows I don't need no mo problems.  I have tried bubble baths, which does relax me, but it does not help me to fall asleep.  And no, sex doesn't do it either I have tried it!

For the last two nights I have been having an affair with Martin Lawrence (the sitcom). I drift off to sleep around 3:30am and then I wake up around 7am(thats late for me).  So, I'm still battling insomnia.  I have to tell ya that this is a common phenomenon amongst WLS patients. To tell ya the truth, I am scared to get in the bed tonight cuz I know I'm not goin to sleep

Hugs!

Aiight - Catt - but are you TIRED during the day?????

It seems to me - if I ain't tired the next day - I ain't need to sleep like that!! Even tho you aren't getting but a couple choppy hours- are you groggy the next day?

Mmmm...You're right!  I'm not tired during the day.  I never even tripped off of it.  If I take an over the counter sleeping pill I feel really foggy the next day.  If and when I let nature take its course, I actually am okay the next day.  It might be a mental thing with me cuz I am saying to myself, "WTH!"  Why am I only sleeping 3 hours at night.  However, I am full of energy the next day!  Its just weird. Maybe, my mind is still fat

JUST as I thought!!!! you are just mentally pushing toward old habits/behaviors!!!  Just like with eating - only because of the TOOL you can't repeat your previous eating habits!!!

By Jove (is that how you say that shiot?) - I think I have GOT it!!!!!  LOL

I am with you on this one. When I was fat, sleep was no problem.  I could sleep through anythng, anytime, anywhere.

Part of it i(n my humble opinion) is that, as you stated, our bodies needed that extra sleep after hauling us around all day and part of it may have been we were too lazy to get up out the bed, so just turned over to catch a few more hrs z's. Back in the day, I could hold some pee, ankles and knees did not like the stress of running to the bathroom. Now I hop out of the bed to go.

To sleep now, I better not hear a peep, see a light on, be touched bothered etc.. and I needs my pills. As much as I HATE to swallow pills, I have to take my sleeping pills.

I have noticed, the later I go to bed, the better I feel the next morning. The more sleep I get the more tired I am the next day. Weird. I am usually in bed by 9:30 but I have been doing some extra work and now dont get into bed until close to 11pm and I am so much more rested the next day. But my body is weird like that. It took me 4 days after I got home from surgery to realize the liquid hydrocodone was keeping me up at night, then I remebered how in college no doz would put me right to sleep.

My mentor and I were talking yesterday about the sleeping pill thing - she thinks the world of me and is so amazed at my faults......(I know - that ***** must STAY amazed, right? lol) so - I tell her the doc won't script me anything stronger than the Rozerem - she gets pissed cause she thinks the doc ain't doin HIS job... she asked me WHY he wouldn't write that **** - I told her cause of my DRUG SEEKING BEHAVIORS!!!!  She ain't believe me - she was like 'why do you take the pills?'

I felt like Sam L in Jungle Fever "I smoked the TV!!!"  I was like I LIKE TO GET HIGH BIOTCH!!!!
