Shout Out To The Lurkers
So lurkers, if you haven't seen a subject that you wanted to post on yet. now is your time to just say hi and introduce yourself. There is saying that is said around here often and that is, "get in where you fit in".
Welcome to BAF. (Thanks Ro Ro for reaching out that day)
Hello
I am a daily lurker. I have never posted anywhere on OH. The only forums I get involved in are the ones on tripadvisor.
I found out about OH a few months after my surgery and found BAF a few months after that. OH and BAF have been a great support for me.
I had lap RYN March 12, 2007. I have lost over 220 pounds since that time. I am 6'3" (female)and started out at 448 pounds. I had no co-morbidities. My procedure was performed by Dr. Spivak. I was self pay. Woke up one morning and my ankles were hurting as I was getting out of bed and said to myself " hell, if the insurance wont pay, I wil pay". I called my initial surgeon (who submitted the paperwork to insurance) but his fees were over $20,000.00 and they did not include hospital charges. I called Methodist Hospital where he was to perform the surgey to set up hospital stay and setting up hospital stay was to cumbersome. I listened to the radio for a few days, got the names of all weight loss advertiser and called them all to see who included everything in the fees. Only wanted to write one check. Did not have time to figure surgeons fee, hosital fees ,anesthesiologist , how much nursing services I would need etc... (I know this was not the best way to pick a surgeon but it worked for me).
I only knew about lap band and ryn. Lap band was not for me, I needed more restriction and wanted to get the weight off fast. the first 100 pounds were gone in 4 months. I excercised alot. I was walking 4 miles a day while I still had my drain tube in. I wanted the weight off and being self pay was/is a great motivator. I frequently think about the $20+k spent and that alone sometimes help control the cravings.
All of my support comes from OH (I use OH to include all its' forums). I am not the support "group" type of person and I am very talkative and can easily dominate a group. Ryn is the best thing I have ever done, wish I'd done it sooner. I would do it again in a heart beat.
Thanks neenaj for the shout out, I enjoy your gentle posts and reponses. Thanks to BAF and all of OH for the support.
