Goal weight

How did you all come up with your goal weight?  According to my Dr my "goal" should be 177.  I'd be ok with that based on where I started, but I'd still be categorized as over weight-closer to the obese end if I stopped losing there.  Is it unrealistic for me to hope and try to get lower than the weight my Dr realisitcaly believes I can achieve?

I don't think I had a rhyme or reason as to what I picked for my goal weight...it just sounded good! LOL My doc gave me a goal weight and I am actually far under it, so I'm happy. Don't let those charts get you down...most of them are unreasonable, as they don't account for body type and musculature.

"How did you all come up with your goal weight?"  I used the weight that I once was that looked good on me.

" Is it unrealistic for me to hope and try to get lower than the weight my Dr realisitcaly believes I can achieve?" Nope...not at all. My NUT told me 166 - I told her to kiss my arse.  Set your own and go for it!

I think it really depends. I set my initial goal of 185 because that's what I was in high school. I've since passed that and am now rocking 170's. My surgeon told me that he didn't have a goal weight at thetime I was 220 and he said your numbers are great if you would lose another 20 lbs I think that would be great and whatever your own personal goal is up to you. My NUT had a goal of 174 so that my BMI would be in the normal range. So, it could be that your doctor is thinking about where you need to be that your comorbidities are gone because for some folks thats all they want.

Thanks.  But luckily I didn't have co morbidities before surgery.  I had surgery as more of a preventative measure.

I set my first goal for 100lbs. That would put me at the very very top of the "normal" BMI range for my height....but a cheeseburger away from overweight lol. But my ultimate goal is to be whatever weight is a size 8 for my frame. I have no idea because I've never been an 8.

Coming from 376, my doc was reasonable and expected me to be around 190-200lbs, (this is what he claimed WLS would do for me in 18-24 months)

Anything else, I would have to work at. However, I wasn't satisfied with that....I'd like to be in the 160-170 range and am headed in the right direction..

My doctor did not suggest a goal weight (Damn I hate that man ).  I digress, but anyway, being that I was over 300 lbs. I just wanted to lose weight.  I wanted to get to 250, now I wanna be 200, after that I just want to be 165 lbs.  I will still be classified as overweight, but I don't think I would look good at 130 lbs (according to BMI calculator).

ETA:  Hell I just want to be a size 12 or 14.

I hear you. A nice size 12 would be ideal for me.
