Hey DeDee

I like reading and writing in slang too...cos thats how I talk half the time...   (I admit I'm extreme though--because I'm usually reaaaaaaaallllll slang-y, or real proper, not much in-between, except that I mix them together a lot.

Ms. Erin

Some folk are never happy no matter what you do.

Jill Scott says it best:

If I could give you the world
On a silver platter
Would it even matter
You'd still be mad at me
If I can find in all this
A dozen roses
Which I would give to you
You'd still be miserable
In reality
I'm gone be who I be
And I don't feel no faults
For all the lies that you bought
You can try as you may
Break me down when I say

That it ain't up to you
Gone and do what you do

Hate on me hater
Now or Later
Cause I'm gonna do me
You'll be mad baby

Have a GREAT One...

It is not the load that breaks you down; it's the way you carry it. -Lena Horne

Oops... double post...

Hey everybody,

I'm usually a lurker on this board, but the topic piqued my interest.   I can be the "grammer police" at times, but I tend to "live at let live" depending upon the cir****tances at the time.

Yes, I'm probably shocked that "Ray Ray" is over 30 and can't read the application he's trying to fill out.  But I don't think it's necessary to berate or insult him for it...  Hearing conversate (man, that gave me a flashback) or more better or getting my hair did is like "nails on a chalkboard" for me - but I know that's my problem, not anyone elses... I will get over it...

Posting on a message board is different...this is supposed to be fun...getting caught up in grammer and syntax takes away from the enjoyment of it all...Be yourself...whatever that happens to be.

I'm sure most of us have been exposed to some slang/ebonics whether we used it regularly or not. Heck, popular culture has absorbed a lot of it from us (because we're cool.)  Baby mamma, 24/7, and others have made it into the Oxford Dictionary.

Anyway, I may see words I don't recognize, even struggle reading some of the posts, but most of the words are phonetic, so ('bout to go old school on you now...) I just "sound it out" and that usually clears up any confusion.  But please be patient with us novice ebonics users too.  I know some slang, but honestly I'm not fully fluent in all the lastest phraseology.  If I ask for clarification, it's not because I'm being this uppity B, it's because I really don't understand.

Take care,
nit

I can totally understand Southern grammar because I'm from Mississippi.  Ebonics does not present a problem for me either.

I will confess to being totally clueless when it comes to the young folk/urban/ghetto slang.  I don't know who all the different hip hop and rap stars are either.
