****YOU**** say, "I cannot understand any of your post?"  Now, this like the fifth time I have seen someone say this to someone on BAF, including me. Now, granted, I have a degree in English, and my career is a WRITER ~professionally~....for someone to say  that, to me, I'm like DUH, what are you ARABIC?!

SURE, I make errors....dayum, I was once told, humans are the only creatures SMART enough to make a mistake ~I'm sure all IT Geeks have heard that one~ and YES, I do type Southern Grammar and SLANG....HOWEVER, I am also very aware, that if a PERSON can READ, they can decipher any word that has at least some of the spelling correct.

So, is it the SLANG that gets you or are you just being a TOTAL (___V___) ~roll eyes~

 You need help LOL

Really, that hurts me....to me it is like DEGRADING someone....everyone does not have the same social skill levels; you know? So what if I am appalled that Jane Doe can't spell, overuse commas, and then have run-on sentences! Do I make her feel bad because she only has a 3rd grade education?!  Hell NO! I motivate, encourage, support!

Kerri asked me the other day (and I had my moms ROLLING), Mommy what is sho no!?  I'm like WHAT?! she said SHO NO!  I said, use it in a sentence LOL

"Chile, these younguns sho no get on my nerves!" YES I feel the hell out laffing....and said, "Gull, you silly!"  She said that is another one....GULL, Mon ~that is what they call Moms~ uses that one all the time too!

I had to explain to her, her Mon has a very limited education and not only that she is SOUTHERN as heck!

The word was really -sho nuff (sure enough) and explained it to her!  My moms laughed so hard and said, "tell dem I think they talk funny too!"

ETA:  See, I used feel where I should have used fell!  ~innocent mistake~

Hey everybody,

I'm usually a lurker on this board, but the topic piqued my interest.   I can be the "grammer police" at times, but I tend to "live at let live" depending upon the cir****tances at the time.

Yes, I'm probably shocked that "Ray Ray" is over 30 and can't read the application he's trying to fill out.  But I don't think it's necessary to berate or insult him for it...  Hearing conversate (man, that gave me a flashback) or more better or getting my hair did is like "nails on a chalkboard" for me - but I know that's my problem, not anyone elses... I will get over it...

Posting on a message board is different...this is supposed to be fun...getting caught up in grammer and syntax takes away from the enjoyment of it all...Be yourself...whatever that happens to be.

I'm sure most of us have been exposed to some slang/ebonics whether we used it regularly or not. Heck, popular culture has absorbed a lot of it from us (because we're cool.)  Baby mamma, 24/7, and others have made it into the Oxford Dictionary.

Anyway, I may see words I don't recognize, even struggle reading some of the posts, but most of the words are phonetic, so ('bout to go old school on you now...) I just "sound it out" and that usually clears up any confusion.  But please be patient with us novice ebonics users too.  I know some slang, but honestly I'm not fully fluent in all the lastest phraseology.  If I ask for clarification, it's not because I'm being this uppity B, it's because I really don't understand.

Take care,

nit

givin my lastest BAF antics...should I really be answering this question.......

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely who others think you are!

NO! LOL

But I noticed, you, like me, will often type slang. Do we feel that because this is the BAF that everyone should know SLANG or EBONICS?  I know I can type Southern Grammar for your asse. Nia and I used to do it daily and I never expected the Northerners to understand it.

So, is it true that some Blacks have lived SHELTERED lifes...though they never lived in a hood, they are unbeknown to SLANG?  Just wondering.

Yes dedee ur right I talk in slang cause I just figure that "we" understand it...I also don't feel that I have to not be myself and pretend by putting on my "corporate" attitude on the computer....it does not mean I am not educated or smart it just means that I come in this MOFO and take off my full length leather after wearing it ALL DAY and get comfortable..and have a damn seat......and since you know me I don't even hafta explain any further what I mean.....
