I feel like crying
Hello All,
My name is Keisha and I am a newbie here. I haven't posted much but I am a lurker who enjoys visiting the forums and am glad that I ran across this website. You don't know how happy I was when I discovered there was a Black American forum on this website. I would love to get to know you all and be apart of this family!!
Prior to having my surgery, I was so excited about about it. I prepared for it and couldn't wait for the day to come. However since having the surgery I have noticed that I have been feeling sad. I don't know if its because I feel as if I have had a divorce from the comfort food that I used to eat and now i'm in mourning or what???? I am an emotional eater and now I choose not to eat what I feel. The thing is I really have no true reason to be sad!!! I have a wonderful job, I am able to pay my bills, and was blessed with the opportunity to have this surgery. I was watching diet tribe last night and this lady said that when women loose weight, we loose estrogen because estrogen is stored in our fat cells. That may be a reason why I am feeling emotional because of low estrogen??? I don't know?
I was wondering has anyone else felt really emotional after having surgery? If so what did you do to get out of the slump?
If you were an emotional eater, what are some things that you do now instead of eating?
Thanks,
Keisha

I've always been an emotional person. But please know that when you have WLS, you will change more than physically.
You lose weight rapidly and fat is stored in our HERmones....so it causes some to get SAD, MAD, HAPPY without warning....~smooches~

Hi Keisha and welcome to the BAF. I was emotional about a week after surgery and I was like WTH have I done. I chose to volunteer more which got me out of the house and away from food.
People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

Hey there!
Glad you stumbled across us. I just wanted to say that is a really good question. I don't remember being this emotional prior to WLS, and I never thought to place the two together. I am going to read the responses as well. Sorry I don't have an answer...but wanted to say thank you for your question.

I had surgery a lil while right before you and I understand what you're talking about. I broke down crying one day after surgery cause my dog jumped on me (this was two weeks after surgery) and at first it hurt, then I started crying harder thinkiing.....I'm all by myself....I could have bled out and nobody would know....my husband would come home and find my dead body.....who would make his lunch. Girl I was TRIPPING. I had a lil breakdown.
So I completely understand emotional. I also understand the food issues. But what I have come to realize that there are some substitutes for some of the comfort food. I LOOOVE Ledo's pizza, was feening for it. I make my own pizza now on a whole wheat pita bread, sauce, and cheese. It isn't Ledo's but it'll do in a pinch!

Welcome Keisha
I usually am in lurk mode as well.
I understand that we all get down @ times, perhaps it is a hormonal thing with you and hopefully it will pass, if not I suggest contacting your doctor to determine what the source of the problem.
I was feeling down over the holidays and tried to turn to my old lover (food) but my band would not allow me. But I did the slider foods and gained about 3 pounds.
Now I have kicked my own self in the azz and getting back on track, the low feeling has passed and I am ready to work my band.
So welcome to the board !!!!!
