COLD FEET
OK so I mentioned in my intro post that I have always been anti-WLS. Now my mom and dad are not really in favor of me doing the WLS, my brother and sister also have been a little 'oh are u sure u want to do that'. Well despite that, I had been going along with the process. Now I have 2nd thoughts. I talked to the nurse at my lapband class- and she told me to think about it because it is so life changing. She told me I had 6 months that my med clearances would still be good. But I dunno..I am thinkign. I can do this myself right? I mean, I have not really really given a diet like JC or WW a 100% try without cheating. I just have a hard time digesting(no pun intended LOL) the fact that some foods i will never eat again.
NEVER?
That's a long time...like I say to myself, you mean when i am 60 and more secure inmyself not caring what others think about me, I will still have this thing in my body and not be able to go to a buffet? and then I also wonder will there be longtime side effects that we don't know about yet because the band has not even been out for 10 years in the US
Anyone else have cold feet?

I don't know what to say to you really other than...you have this opportunity to improve your health and possibly living a longer and healthier life versus to continue the buffets and possibly cut your life short. I hope I didn't sound too harsh but the reality of it is, I would hate to see you pass this opportunity up because of your mind playing tricks on you (mine still does). It is ultimately your final decision and I will pray that you make the right one and...I can send you some socks for those cold feet.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown
I'm not really familiar on the mechanics of the LapBand but as I understand it, the band is a restrictive tool to limit the amount of food that you eat. Of course, you still have to make good food choices (as with any diet) and while there may be some bandster's that have foods that no longer agree with them, I doubt that you will be giving up much.
That is the big advantage of the band....you can tolerate things in moderation. The feelings that you have are perfectly normal, most of us went through it, and then we found peace. Hopefully, you will as well.

You know, for me not one time I got cold feet about the surgery. I knew I stood a greater chance of a 'doomed' life by not having it done than following up on it. I did regret trying to share it with family and friends. They were so negative with their 5th hand accounts of someone not having a positive outcome. I challenge you to research and pray about it. As far as the type to have, research that as well. I'm sure the surgeon can give you a sense of direction with that choice.
The lapband is a tool. It can be removed. This is not permanent; it can be though!
After being banded your tastes will change and you may not want the foods you use to crave.
If you have a reservation that you will be missing food, you will miss some foods, but after you try them once, you may not even want them again.
I gave myself that extra 6 months of dieting to be sure. I did lose 65 pounds prior to the band, but, I still got the band to lose the rest and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
I did not have "cold Feet", but I did pray heavy on the decision and thought that my long term health would benefit more than me yo yo dieting.
I encourage you to search yourself futher. Remember that you can continue this process while you research and if you do not want to do it, you can stop at any time. There is no pressure except what you place on yourself. This is a personal decision for you and only you.
Take Care!

Have you had your psych evaluation yet? My concern is if you have problems committing to the above, you could also have the same issues with any WLS. Bring this up during the evaluation so that you can get to the root of the problem.
Good luck!

Hey Netta,
Have you explored all of your surgery options? One of the reasons I chose my surgery (duodenal switch) was because I didn't want to give up certain things. I knew I couldn't live without certain foods which is why I put off surgery for so long. When I started to look into it, I didn't know anything about the DS. I was ready to get RNY because I just wanted to lose this weight. When I sat down and compared all of the surgeries, I decided on the DS.
Each surgery has its pluses and minuses. The best you can do is to research each one thoroughly and make the best decision for you. Check out all of the boards... Lapband, RNY, DS, VSG. See how folks are living life after the fact. Whatever you do, don't rush into a decision. This is for life. Yes, the band is reversible but who wants to undergo multiple surgeries? The best thing you can do is pick the one that is right for you from the beginning.
Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the honest feedback. In my psych eval, we talked about me making lifestyle changes now and not so much my failure to commit. I am going to look on the boards some more. I suppose now for the next 2 months I could commit to dieting with something like WW or J****il I can honestly say I am ready. The worst case is I put off the surgery till June. I'll take you up on those socks though
Thanks again! Any other ideas or feedback is welcome
