Tell me about the DOs and DON'Ts of eating after your procedure....
The young lady asking about the chicken wings has done two things....1) got me to thinking about/wanting some wings and 2) wondering about what can and can't be eaten after surgery.
So please if you have a moment tell me about your after surgery steps to eating and at what stage (or week) you could eat what.

I think in the beginning its dependent on your surgeon and or NUT guidelines of how they reintroduce the different foods back to your new pouch. After the six month rule (or whever your NUT or surgeon gives you the ok to eat all foods)I think it depends on you and your pouch. I can eat anything in moderation and I use that word carefully because you should be able to eat anything in moderation if your pouch allows it.
it really all depends on your system and what it can take and also what surgery you had. If you had bypass i would say stay away from all fried food and spicy foods. I had lap-band and sometime something I ate last week won't agree with my system next week it just all depends. Now I had friends that have had bypass and again it just depends some can eat greasy foods some can not some can eat sugar some can not. like I stated the only thing you can do is try it in very small portions but do it at home because believe me if it does not agree with you, you will know and fast. LOL
Well i had the RNY and my plan goes like this.. Stage one clear liquids: water, iced tea, crystal light, sugar free popsicles. for about a week. stage 2: pureed food, low calorie yogurt, scambled eggs mashed, hot cereals, plain applesauce, mashed bananas, straied soups, for 3 weeks.stage three. semi soft foods: tuna fish, shrimp, salmon, lean beef-turkey,eggs,well cooked pasta, toast for 2 weeks or months stage 4; regular diet if you can handle it. thats what the doc gave me thats the short list hope that helps a little.
It still depends on your surgeon. All programs are different. Some surgeons allow people to come home on soft food but some have to be on liquids for weeks. For example, I had the RNY but my surgeon and nutritionist doesn't allow fruit until you've reached goal weight, they don't allow snacks and they don't want you to drink protein shakes but to get all of your protein from your food. Now other people's surgeons allow all of the above from the beginning. You will have to get your specific guidelines from your surgeon at your seminar.
I had the DS. In the hospital I was on liquids and progressing to pureed foods by the end of my stay (4 days). I stayed on pureed for the next week or so, then gradually added in soft foods. By the end of my first month, I was eating things like meatballs, meatloaf, chicken wings, and string cheese.
