For those of you with locs or who have had locs
Hello!
I've been wearing locs for 8 years now and this is how I started off:
1 year no relaxers, deep conditioning, trim off the relaxed ends, got either some braid or weave style while I grew out my relaxer.
Once I grew most of the relaxer out; I did the big chop! I went to a professional loc stylist (Nature Trendsetters in Ft. Lauderdale) and got my hair twisted.
The 1st 6 months is the mug mo phase! Headbands and scarves were my friend! Just a imagine a big ol' head and itty bitty twist on top!
Anyho, after 6 months, ,my locs were down to the base of my neck and just grew like wild weeds after that!

"All of us experience change in our lives. Change is the one constant in our lives. There are changes that we look forward too and change that we fear. However, one thing is for sure. Things will not stay the same no matter how much we would like them too. When a life change occurs, we have two choices in how to respond. We can despair that a change has come and assume that things will be worse, or we can look with excitement at the new possibilities that the change presents. "
No need to cut your hair since it has no perm on it. Your loc's can be started from double stranded twists. Loc's are so liberating and free...... no bad hair days! You must maintain them with quality products and a good loctician.
Sister locs are pretty if you like your locs very thin- they are expensive to start and maintain.

Change is a Process Not an Event
I like mine, I used to love them. Not because of anything the locs did, I just always wanted short hair and never had the nerve because I felt my face was too fat. Now it's slimming down nicely. Take a look at my pics on my page, you can see I basically keep mine well maintained, and yes it takes work. Here in my area loc maintenance and styles are expensive. Right now I go to a friend of a friend that does it in her house for 50-60. I used to pay 80-90 every 6 weeks.
I like sisterlocs but the only problem is that you HAVE to go to somebody to get them maintained. Unless you actually take a class they offer and do it yourself. It is a long and tedious process. My girlfriend is very discouraged. Ususally sister locticians charge by the hour and if you have a lot of hair it can be pricey. I have small-average size locs and can do them myself in between salon vists.
In the beginning I wore lots and lots of hats. You WILL look set up while your hair is locing. It will be bushy, puffy, all of that. But then one day I woke up and magically they looked like actual locs. It took maybe 4 months.
If you have locs and they break off something is wrong. Either you had a weak point or you are not taking care of them properly. I don''t have any problems in that area.
One thing I like is that they are very easy to style. I hardly ever wear mine just straight. I used to always get pin ups and styles. Now I like the curly or crinkly look better. Or I put it in a side ponytail. The styles some of these locticians can do is amazing. It's hard to get bored with locs if you are creative.
When I cut mine off this summer I'll send mine to you and you can glue them on lol

There's a pic I stole from Kendra lol, of Melinda Wiliams. I put it in my profile so when I'm ready I can print it out and take it with me lol. I love it!
You never know I might reconsider. Hubby is really hoping I do. He doesn't like short hair and said one of the things that attracted him to me was my hair and how it fit my "look". Whatever that means LMAO.
