They CAN work...and like everybody else said it depends on the individuals that's in the relationship. I've had long distance relationships quite a few times....some worked, some didn't....this last one, I got married and didn't move to be with my husband until 5 months later prior to he was in Iraq for 8 months and then he came home to California....we've been married for 1 1/2 years now and yes it's NOT always peaches -N-cream but like Pastor Di said no marriage/relationship really is....... it's going to take  "patience", "communication", "forgiveness",  "honesty", being  open to learning and understanding your SO...which is the key to most successful relationships.

***ETA: Speaking of distance......I lived in Florida, we met while he was in Iraq (but he lived in California)

I met my wife,, while in college in Tennessee. She was in NC. I was 19, and she was 17. We were 10 hours apart, and only saw each other 3-4 times a year, for 4 years.

19 years later, 3 SPOILED ass kids later, we are STILL happy.(Nope, she aint left me yet, LOL!!!)

They can work. Im living proof.

I am not officially in a LDR although I hope to be soon  I never wanted to be in a Long distance relationship. I am like Shani I want to see the person I am with on a daily basis. I want to be able to come home to that individual everyday. Well sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you meet someone who is so wonderful that it would be stupid not to see where it will go. And everyone will have something to say behind your back and to your face about how does she know this person is who they say they are? And how do you know they are not cheating on you? My response is you have to go in with your eyes wide open and trust your instincts. Nothing in this life is guaranteed but if you never take a risk you will never receive a reward either.

Yes they can work but it depends on how serious both parties are.  I was in a long distance relationship for 1 year.  I was in NC and he was in SC.  It was work but it paid off...I'm Mrs. Mark A. Moses for proof!!!!  Long distance relationships take a special kind of love and that's what we had and still have.

Yes they can.  I was in a LDR for 1 1/2 years.  I was in Fayetteville, NC and he was in Sumter, SC.  We took turns coming to see each other.  Yea, they was some breaks in between because of our schedules, but we sacrificed and guess what?????  I'm Mrs. Mark A. Moses to prove it!!!!!!  It takes a special kind of long for LDR's and that's what we had and still have now!

Before I got married, my husband and I were in a long distance relationship for about 6 months before we decided to move to a neutral spot.  We both were in the midwest but, we met often on the weekend in Chicago as this was the midway point.  Although we dated officially for 10 months, the last 4 months we moved to Texas together.

During the long distance phase, we talked on the phone all day and night.  We have been married for over 10 years now... We are still happy!

Wow!! LDR really CAN work.

I'm in one now....and although there are times when I long for her like nobody's business....the distance only makes us stronger for now. We plan to move to a neutral city this coming August. She and I see one another about every two weeks....unless I'm just "JONESIN" for her presence REALLYYYYY BAD! Then I'll jump on the road un-planned, and un announced!! I live in Miami, she lives in Ocala a distance of aproximately 300 miles/ 4 hour drive!

In other words...LDR's they work...so long as you desire for them to do so.  The love two people share MUST "out strech" the distance. Lots of hard work, understanding, sacrafice, determination, and the desire to be happy in the long run...all of these things play a part in it working.
