Hi all I am new here and just trying to figure this forum out.

A ltitle about me I recently decided to embark on WLS surgery.  I lost 60 lbs on my own in 2007 and 2008 but I can't seem to keep it off I keep gaing 10 -20 lbs here and there so I decided on weight loss surgery.
I plan on having the lap band surgery and am going for my first information session this Wed.  Any insight to what to expect will be helpful to me.  I found out my insurance covers the surgery, my doctor gave me approval I just hope it all works out.

Just wanted to say hi!  There are several lap bandster's on board, hopefully they will be able to answer your questions.  Also, in case you didn't know....there's a lap band forum here on OH.

Best wishes to you!

Ok my question is generally from the time you go to initial consultation etc how long does it for one to actually schedule the surgery.  I am sure I will learn more information at the session on Wed however, I just want to have a general idea.  Also, my bf is waiting for me to have the surgery before he goes into the army.

It depends on 3 things:

1. Your doctor
2. Your insurance
3. Requirements

For me, at the time of surgery, I had Federal BCBS--the requirments for surgery were BMI of 40 or over or BMI of 35 with a co-morbidity(ies).  That was it.  Then my surgeon required an ultrasound of the tummy, that dayum breathing test (PFT ), and bloodwork. Also, if you were a smoker, you HAD to stop making at LEAST 8 weeks before surgery.

So, after my first consultation, I was approved right, then and there....all I had to do was take my test, etc. That was June 2003....I had surgery Sept 30, 2003.

I focus not on my disabilty; my focus is on my ABILITIES.
