I've done the gym thing, and I liked it because the variety of equipment and classes.  I also had a trainer that ran a gym out of their home which worked well for me, because I needed to have someone to be accountable to that was waiting for me to show up.  Now days when I'm cleared to work out gain I'm doing the home route.  I have some equipment and several workout DVD's I plan to rotate thru.

i HAVE to work out in a gym - being within a certain proximity of a SOFA causes a sharp decline in my workout motivation....... LOL!!!!

Seriously - I LOVE being in the gym and have altered my budget to accomodate the expense - I need all the equipment for variety and to really push me as I need to be pushed......

I still have DVDs at home to work out to though - just in CASE I am too lazy to get to the gym too!  LOL

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

I've done the gym and at home thing. Right now my finances arent in the best place to join a gym, so I work out at home. I got my $30 DVD player and my workout DVDs that'll have me sweating a perm right on out! For me at home is way better. I love working out and then hitting the shower and either heading to work or to bed.

If I could promise myself that I wouldnt waste my money by joining a gym and never going I might do a gym instead but I love working out at home. I'm also looking into getting an eliptycal (sp?) because I love those things and they KILL-DEMOLISH-TERMINATE those calories in BULK. But they're so expensive. So right now that would be the only reason why I would consider a gym over at home but the second I can afford one...I'll be saying 'gym-who?'

Only took a good two weeks to get motivated to the point that I can work out home or at the gym.  Why not join the National Body challenge to collect a month membership at Ballys to see if you can drag yourself in regularly before you invest?

Miz D took the words right out of my mouth- if you join the Discovery Health Fitness Challenge you'll get a free 30 trial membership to I think it's 24 hour fitness or something like that.

Also, check with your local YMCA, they often will work with you on a membership fee and adjust it to fit your finances.

I don't like working out at home because (as another post said) it's just wayyyy to close to my couch.
My school has a new recreation and wellness center and the membership cost is included in tuition.

But you can always go to the park- pick a 'couch to 5K' running plan (there are plenty on the web) and start jogging.  That burns calories quickly.

THAT'S A NO BRAINER FOR ME!! THE GYM FOR SHO!CAUSE WORKIN OUT AT HOME WILL NOT GET DONE CAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY DISTRACTIONS. THE ONLY REASON FOR ME BEING HOME IS EATING, SLEEPING, AND TALKING ON THE PHONE, AND BEING ON MY LAPTOP! LOL! AT THE GYM I AM FOCUSED WITH ALL THOSE MACHINES, SEEING OTHER PEOPLE DOING THEIR THING MOTIVATES ME.

Hi Ashley,

I prefer the gym.  I just started last month with a trainer and I absolutely love it.  I tend to not workout at home.  Although I need to start because I have the following items to name a few still in the packaging:  Billy Blanks, The Bean, Katami Bar.  I need to try to sell these on ebay to recoup some of my funds to apply towards my monthly gym membership.
