Hair and working out
Hello ladies,
I have a question for you. Normally I wash my hair once every 4 days or even once a week but because I've been working out more I've realized thats not really the best idea. For my workout WLS sisters whats your hair washing regime? Help me out because I cant walk around with sweaty hair. Also have any of you heard of PHYTO its some really expensive hair product that Oprah and Vanessa Williams supposively use. Thanks!

When working out I usually wrap my hair , it sweats but I have to work with it. If you are washing or doing your own hair I can understand the frequent washes. My budget only allows me to go to the salon once a week, + my daughter, therefore I have to deal with it. I also do not wash more than 2 times a week because I do not want to wash the natural oils from my hair.
I have not heard of PHYTO, I will have to google it. If you try it let me know what you think.

I have heard of PHYTO, and it's supposed to protect the hair (I think), but black women, our hair, and working out is, and I feel always will be an issue..... This is one of many reasons I went natural - until I could get my body to the place it was comfortable. I don't really have an 'answer' per se', just know that we all have to find the best remedy for us. Some people use braids, some cut it short, some get extensions/hair weaves, some keep the relaxer but relax a little more often.... Again, you just have to find what works best for you, but BELIEVE me when I tell you: There is not a sister on this board who has not had some issue with her hair and working out!!! If it's any comfort to you, I wish you the best.... I currently have a short natural and I like it (right now)..... all the best!

I workout at least 5 times a week and I am a FAN of phyto products. I have been using the hair relaxer for almost 8 years. The best product I have ever used. I don't have issues with chemical burns and my hair is bouncy and shiny on the day I do my hair. With that being said it is very pricey! The hair relaxer is $60. I can get two applications out of each box. If you have shorter hair you might be able to get another. I do not have to relax my hair as often since I starting using their products. I also use the revitalize hair oil, the deep conditioner, the relaxing balm (helps to condition/straighten your hair when you blow dry it). I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and will admit I can just pull it back and keep it moving. I probably put more heat on my hair now (i.e. blowdrying, curling/flat iron) since i have cut it shorter but so far my hair still looks good. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Tennille,
I was just thinking aboutt his question myself. I've begun to straighten my natural out but don't want that to be a hinderance to not working out like I need to. However, if your hair is relaxed my stylist told me something that worked fine. She said to wrap your hair and then tie it down with a scarf when you go to the gym. Once you're done working out take that scarf off and put another scarf on. This helps with the sweat because one draws the sweat to the scarf the other dries your hair. It worked for me the few times I did it.

Hi Tennille,
Like everyone else said, I wrap my hair while workin out and leave it wrapped until it dries. If I have curls, I just pin curl it. Works for me. That works wonders for me and this length. Now if I go shorter, then HOUSTON we have a problem because I SWEAT in my hair and let's just say, I'd have a nappy bush if I worked out. I go to the salon weekly.
I've never heard of PHYTO but am gettin ready to goole it right now

I was once a mess!! My mess is now my message!! WLS saves lives!! I'm living proof!
I've heard good things about Phyto products. I don't have any chemicals in my hair except for some color to cover my gray. I use Ojon products that I get on QVC or Ojon.com or Hairone conditoner washes from Sally's, it is a dupe of Wen products. I don't use any products with sulphates in them because they strip your hair color and relaxer and make your hair feel like straw. I condition wash my hair about twice a week now. I used to do it more often but I'm losing too much hair right now. I wear my hair in a ponytail everyday unless it's flat ironed. I'm not working out right now until I've been cleared by my neurologist and orthopedist. You've had some good advice about the scarves.
I wear my old wig to the gym, put a bandana around it when working out.....take it off when swimming and put on my swim cap.....after swimming, put it back on.....and viola!
Nothing like a dayum wig when working out
